Chapter 6 The Lion Strikes
Chapter Six: The Lion Strikes
Today is a special day for Chu Ye. He knows that his body is extraordinary, possessing an immune system that other male lions do not have. In addition, his saliva seems to be able to detoxify.
Furthermore, he has already dealt with Xiao Hei and saved its life. Xiao Hei has become Chu Ye's friend and will no longer cause trouble for Chu Ye.
The next few days were quite good for Chu Ye. Each night, the two lionesses were able to catch prey, allowing them to rest during the day.
Although Chu Ye and his companions don't eat much meat, the lioness provides plenty of milk, and they are well-fed every day.
However, Chu Ye still had a bad feeling, because the dry season was coming and there wouldn't be many more good days like this.
During the dry season, animals on the African savanna live on the edge of danger every day. Not only do carnivores lack prey, but even herbivores are forced to wander and search for grassy areas as some vegetation withers.
Like water buffalo, animals that cannot live without water, during the dry season they have to migrate from the southern African savanna to the north to live.
One early morning, while Chu Ye was still asleep, he suddenly felt the earth tremble, as if many animals were walking from a distance.
Chu Ye opened his eyes and crawled out of the bushes. He saw countless zebras and wildebeests walking across their pride's territory.
Lisa, Aisha, and Jike stood under the big tree, watching the migrating army in the distance, their eyes filled with helplessness.
Hearing the commotion, the other lion cubs also came out of their dens. However, they continued to frolic and jump around, paying no attention to the herd of wildebeest and zebras in the distance.
Chu Ye knew what this army's westward march meant. Without wildebeest and zebras, the carnivores on the grasslands would live a precarious existence.
Carnivores do not only eat herbivores; when herbivores are scarce, they have no choice but to cannibalize each other in order to survive.
Chu Ye knew that their good days were over, and the entire grassland was entering a turbulent period. After the wildebeest and zebra herds left, what remained was parched earth and thirsty lips.
The next day, Chu Ye had just climbed out of the bushes when he heard the roar of a lion coming from afar.
"Awooo! — Awooo! —"
Chu Ye saw a strong male lion approaching from the edge of their pride. Its mane was long and had turned dark brown.
This indicates that it was a strong male lion in its prime, probably around six years old. Jike was resting on a rock when he suddenly heard a lion's roar in the distance, which immediately startled him awake.
Lisa and Elsa are the same.
They both quickly looked up at a strong male lion that was walking towards them.
The lion roared as it walked directly toward Zeke. Clearly, this stray lion was there to challenge Zeke.
Jike was startled and immediately jumped off the boulder, letting out an angry roar. It was furious at this audacious intruder.
It's known that most nomadic male lions ambush a pride at night. But this lion challenged Zeke in broad daylight. It seems it felt confident it could defeat Zeke.
The dry season has arrived, and the nomadic lions are restless; they know this is a good time to seize the throne.
Because during the dry season, life is more difficult for lion prides, the lion king's standard of living will decline, and the lion king's strength will also decrease.
Generally speaking, the dry season is the best time for nomadic male lions to vie for the throne. However, this nomadic male lion was a bit too hasty; the dry season had only just begun, and it was already trying to seize the throne.
Now the two lions roared and charged straight at each other. It seemed a great battle was about to begin.
Lisa and Elsa watched as their leader went out to fight; they simply lay there watching without making any move.
The lion cubs seemed to realize something and lay down beside their mother, no longer daring to play.
Chu Ye was also somewhat afraid, because it knew all too well the serious consequences of such a battle. If its lion king father were defeated, then all ten of them would be doomed.
So Chu Ye climbed up a big tree, feeling that he would be safer there. The other lion cubs, however, clearly didn't realize how serious the consequences of this battle would be.
Lisa and Elsa didn't help either. This seems to be a rule in the lion world: when the male lion goes into battle, the lionesses just stay on the sidelines and don't go up to help.
Of course, sometimes they will help, depending on certain special circumstances.
For example, if its cubs are very old, and the lion king is defeated, the lionesses may have to wander with their cubs. In this situation, the lioness will go to help the lion king fight.
In another scenario, the lion king may become too old, and the lionesses may no longer want him. In such cases, if a young male lion were to invade the lion's territory, the lionesses might turn against the old king and drive him away, allowing a new king to take the throne.
Jike is still young, and Lisa and Aisha won't chase him away. It's just that, driven by some kind of instinct, they'll only stand by and watch the fight between male lions, with no intention of getting involved.
Two male lions roared and ran toward each other, a battle for the lion king was about to break out.
Jike and the invading male lion were about the same size, both in their prime. It seemed the two lions were evenly matched in strength.
Sure enough, the two lions fought for several rounds, neither gaining the upper hand, and it was impossible to tell who would defeat whom. Lisa and Elsa simply watched the two lions battle from under the big tree; they had no intention of joining the fight.
Chu Ye, hiding in the tree, was getting anxious. This invading lion was very strong, and Jike might not have a chance of winning.
Normally, in such a situation, the lionesses would fight, because the consequences of the lion king's defeat would be severe. However, their cubs were only two months old, and instinct prevented them from participating in such a battle.
If their cubs are all over six months old, they might join the fight and help Jike drive away the invading male lion.
Right now, they are both indifferent and have no intention of going over to help.
"What should we do? If the Lion King is defeated, then the lives of our ten cubs will be in danger." Seeing the two unmoved lionesses, Chu Ye jumped around anxiously in the tree.
