Chapter 69 Lions Fighting for Food
Chapter Sixty-Nine: Lions Fighting for Food
Male lions must always maintain a strong physique. If a male lion is starving and emaciated, how can it possibly protect its pride?
Such a lion cannot reign as king for more than a few days before being replaced by other wandering lions.
Therefore, even during the dry season, male lions need to eat regularly. If they go without food for many days, they will lack the strength to protect their pride, and such a pride will soon be replaced by other nomadic male lions.
Jike is at a loss now. His two wives keep failing at hunting, leaving him, their husband, hungry all the time. As a result, he has no choice but to go to work with his wives.
Even with the lion Jik and his two wives working together, a successful hunt was still very difficult. After all, at this time, there was very little prey to hunt on the vast grasslands.
It's either a very small animal or a very large animal. For lions, the best way to sustain a pride is to hunt large prey; only large prey can feed the entire pride.
Jike and his two wives set their sights on a mature, old water buffalo today. It was a lone water buffalo.
Such an opportunity would normally be a great chance for a pride of lions, as success would allow them to obtain a large amount of food.
Especially for the Jike pride, there are only three adult lions, and the rest are cubs with small appetites.
If they can hunt an adult buffalo, it would be a real feast for the Jike pride.
However, adult buffalo are not so easy to hunt. This is especially true for a pride like the Jike Lions, which are not particularly strong in combat.
This time, despite having male lions in the hunt, they returned empty-handed. It was quite frustrating that three adult lions went hunting together and came up empty-handed. After all, it was the dry season, making it extremely difficult to catch large prey.
Actually, the male lion Jike shouldn't have gone hunting with the two lionesses today. If the two lionesses had gone hunting together, they might have had a better catch.
While they were out hunting, Lisa spotted an adult warthog. It wanted to go hunting with Lisa and the male lion, Jik.
But then, the lion Jik spotted a lone buffalo. It sensed that this buffalo was an old one.
If this pride of lions can capture this old buffalo, they can live a life of plenty for several days.
So the lion Jik decided to abandon the adult warthog and hunt the adult old buffalo instead.
Lisa listened to the lion Jike's idea. She also felt that if they could capture this old buffalo, it would indeed solve the food problem for the entire pride for many days.
So Lisa, Aisha, and Jike went together to hunt the old buffalo. The three of them thought that, no matter what, they were three adult lions. One of them was a strong, powerful male lion.
With such a combination of forces, they might be able to take down a mature, old water buffalo. This is because a mature, old water buffalo is certainly not as strong as a young, adult water buffalo.
And so, Lisa, Aisha, and Zeke gave up on the adult warthog. Actually, if Zeke and Lisa hadn't gone hunting with Aisha, they likely would have caught it.
But Zeke made a wrong decision; it felt very powerful. Since it, the lion king, was personally going to hunt, it naturally had to choose a big, strong one.
So, Jik, Lisa, and Aisha went to hunt the old buffalo together. Jik initially thought the old buffalo was probably no match for the three adult lions. The three adult lions could easily take down the buffalo.
But things didn't turn out the way Jike had imagined. This buffalo was not only incredibly strong, but, more importantly, it received help from its own herd at the last moment.
The strong buffalo leader led the herd to rescue the old buffalo. This was quite unusual. Normally, when buffalo grow old, they live alone until they are preyed upon by other predators, which ends their lives.
This water buffalo, though it had already left the herd, somehow managed to get the herd back after the leader heard its bellow.
Jike, Lisa, and Aisha were about to succeed. If the other buffaloes hadn't come over, they could have killed the old buffalo, had a good meal, and brought back plenty of food for the lion cubs.
But when the strong buffalo leader led the herd back to save the old buffalo, Najik, Lisa, and Aisha had no choice but to give up the delicious meal they had in their hands.
And so, Jike, Lisa, and Aisha's hunt ended in failure. If they had gone after that adult warthog from the beginning, they might have caught one.
An adult warthog weighs over 100 pounds. If the Jike pride were to catch one, it would be enough to feed the entire pride some pork. While they wouldn't all be able to eat their fill, it would be far better than going hungry.
Jike, Lisa, and Aisha had just worked hard for nothing, and they were all panting heavily. In the end, it was all for nothing, and the old water buffalo had returned to the herd.
Jike, Lisa, and Aisha couldn't understand this phenomenon. Normally, old buffalo that leave the herd don't return. But this buffalo was acting strangely.
Perhaps this buffalo wasn't particularly old, and the herd was still willing to accept it. So, after being attacked by three lions, it returned to the herd.
By this time, the weather had started to get hot, so Jike, Lisa, and Aisha had to head back home. They wouldn't be able to hunt anymore once the temperature rose.
But when Jike, Lisa, and Aisha returned to the pride, they were surprised to find the lion cubs fighting over food.
Chu Ye had already eaten its fill, so it didn't go over to fight for the meat. Instead, it lay to one side and watched the other lion cubs scramble to eat the wild dog's flesh.
The lion cubs were also very hungry. They all rushed up to fight over the wild dog's meat, and soon they ate the wild dog down to just a skeleton.
But just then, the male lion Jike and two lionesses returned.
When Jike saw the lion cubs fighting over food, it immediately became excited. So, it quickly ran over and snatched the carcass of a wild dog.
But by this time, there was hardly any meat left on the stray dog's carcass; it was just a skeleton.
Even so, Zeke still insisted on keeping the wild dog skeleton all to himself.
But Lisa and Elsa were also very hungry. If the male lion hadn't been fighting over the food, they probably wouldn't have bothered fighting over the cubs' food.
However, now that the male lion Jik is directly snatching food from the children, Nalisa and Aisha are naturally not going to be polite either.
Lisa and Elsa immediately joined in the scramble for food from the lion's mouth. They could give way to the cubs, but there was no need to give way to this father who didn't love his children.
Lisa and Elsa immediately went over and joined the lion in fighting over the carcass of the wild dog.
Three adult lions were fighting over the carcass of a wild dog, which was already reduced to a skeleton. Under the tearing action of the three lions, it was quickly torn to pieces.
Chu Ye lay to one side, watching the three adult lions fight over the skeleton of a wild dog. He felt sorry for the three adult lions. They were adult lions, yet they couldn't hunt any prey and had to eat Chu Ye's prey. All of this made Chu Ye worry about the future of this pride.
"Damn, this entire pride of lions is being fed by just me, a single cub. How long can this pride possibly survive?"
Chu Ye watched the three adult lions still fighting over food, and he was very worried about the future of this pride.
After each obtaining some wild dog skeletons, the three adult lions began to eat. Although they were just skeletons with little meat, they found them quite delicious.
After all, these three adult lions hadn't eaten meat for several days, and now any kind of meat would be a delicacy to them.
As Lisa ate the wild dog meat, she wondered where this wild dog came from. Could it have been hunted by the lion cubs themselves?
But Lisa also knew that among these lion cubs, only one was very powerful. The other lion cubs would have run away in fear at the sight of wild dogs, so why would they hunt wild dogs?
"Could it be that Chu Ye, that little lion, has hunted down another wild dog?"
Lisa already knew that Chu Ye was a very powerful little lion who had previously helped Jike defeat other stray male lions. Furthermore, Chu Ye had also fought a pack of wild dogs.
All of this made Lisa very attentive to Chu Ye, the little lion, and she kept a close eye on his every move. She also felt very strange, not understanding why this little lion was so powerful.
Although Lisa didn't see Chu Ye fight the wild dogs, she believed that only Chu Ye was capable of hunting them. The other lion cubs simply didn't have that ability.
