Chapter 30 Evolution and Mutation
Chapter Thirty: Evolution and Mutation
Chu Ye looked at the bones he had left over, which had become a delicacy for the entire pride, and he felt a strange mix of emotions.
Think about it, these lions are known as the kings of beasts by humans.
These kings of beasts are now fighting over a single bone. Even the sisters Lisa and Elsa are getting into a brawl over it.
This little badger, with its tiny bone, would have been nothing more than a small snack to two adult female lions.
Lisa and Elsa each grabbed some bones and quickly chewed and ate them.
The lion cubs managed to eat some small bones. Although the bones from that one badger cub were hardly enough to fill the two lionesses and their cubs' stomachs, they only got a taste of the badger cub.
But no matter what, they ate something, which is much better than not eating anything at all.
Just then, the lion reappeared from nowhere. Upon its return, it immediately smelled blood. It seemed that Lisa and Elsa had eaten some prey here.
By this time, Lisa and Elsa had already finished eating the baby badger's bones, and there was nothing left on the ground except some bone fragments.
The male lion had no idea what the lionesses had eaten. He assumed they had caught some large prey and then devoured it in their own territory, leaving nothing for him.
The male lion just went to find food on his own. The lionesses hadn't been able to hunt for several days, and the male lion was starving, so he had to hunt for himself.
However, hunting during the day is a dangerous activity for lions. Not only is the prey difficult to catch, but the weather itself doesn't allow them to hunt.
Male lions are less able to engage in strenuous activity than female lions because they have a large ruff around their necks.
This large scarf not only makes the lion look more majestic, but also protects its neck during fights.
However, this large scarf around the lion's neck also prevents it from dissipating heat in hot weather and prevents it from engaging in vigorous activities.
Just now, Jike wanted to hunt by itself, but it wandered around its territory for a long time without seeing any prey.
Although the lion later spotted a juvenile hare, just as it was about to launch a sneak attack, the little hare discovered it.
Although the lion hurried to give chase, the little rabbit was closer to its den. Just as the lion was about to catch up with the little rabbit, it suddenly darted into the hole.
The lion could only drool over the entrance to the cave as a plump rabbit slipped away, leaving the lion to huff and puff as it returned.
But when it returned home, it was furious to see two lionesses eating.
However, the two lionesses had already eaten the small badger bone. The male lion was furious and immediately roared at the two lionesses. Clearly, he felt that the two lionesses had stolen their prey while he was away.
The two lionesses seemed helpless as well, and could only roar at the male lion a few times, as if to explain their behavior.
Chu Ye watched all this with some worry in his heart.
He wondered if this pride of lions could survive the dry season.
The dry season is only halfway over, but this pride of lions is already facing a food crisis.
Although the male lion was very angry, he couldn't do anything to the two lionesses, after all, they were his wives too.
So the lion had no choice but to go and rest on the side.
The two lionesses seemed to have suffered some injustice, so they could only lie down next to the male lion and lick the fur on his back.
Several lion cubs, seeing the male lion roar, became frightened and hid in the bushes.
Chu Ye, like the other lion cubs, hid in the nearby bushes.
And so the day passed. For these little lions, it felt like just another ordinary day.
For Chu Ye, it was just an ordinary day. After all, he hadn't done anything important; he'd only managed to snag a baby badger.
At night, Chu Ye and the other lion cubs stayed in the bushes, where they lay together and slept.
The next morning was nothing special. During the dry season on the grasslands, every day was almost the same; the sun always hung blazing in the sky, and everything on the ground was scorching hot.
It's only cool in the morning, when the sun hasn't risen high in the sky yet; it's just hanging on the horizon.
As usual, Chu Ye woke up and crawled out of the bushes.
The other lion cubs, awakened by Chu Ye, also came out.
Two lionesses were resting under a large tree outside, and the male lion was not seen; he was probably out patrolling his territory.
Last night, Lisa and Elsa managed to catch another small warthog, giving the pride some more pork.
The lion cubs also ate some pork. However, Chu Ye wasn't hungry, and seeing that the little warthog wasn't very big, it didn't try to steal the food.
The lion cubs ate some food yesterday and are much more energetic today.
They jumped around in front of the two lionesses, looking very happy.
But when Chu Ye came to their side, they all looked at him in surprise, as if he were not a little lion, but some other animal.
Chu Ye was puzzled, not understanding what was wrong with him, why these little lions felt somewhat unfamiliar with him.
Hearing the cubs' cries, Lisa looked up at Chu Ye, a hint of anger flashing in her eyes. But after sniffing Chu Ye's scent, she settled back down to sleep.
Elsa, too, stared at Chu Ye in bewilderment. Seeing that Lisa didn't do anything, it went to sleep as well.
For a moment, Chu Ye was utterly bewildered, not understanding what was wrong with him. He seemed perfectly normal! Why were these little lions looking at him with such surprise?
Chu Ye himself was also puzzled, so he turned his head to see what was wrong with his body.
When it turned its head, it was surprised to find that its head was also very flexible, as if it could rotate 360 degrees.
Chu Ye simply turned his head and saw that a white stripe had grown on his back, which looked very conspicuous.
Originally, Chu Ye's fur was the same as the other lion cubs, with dark stripes on his yellow fur. But now, a white stripe had appeared on his body, making him stand out among the lion cubs.
