Surviving the Long Night: Starting from the Gas Station and Infinite Upgrades

Chapter 15: Pressurization, Timber Harvesting, and Warehouse Repair

Chapter 15: Pressurization, Timber Harvesting, and Warehouse Repair

"Folding cart, consumes one unit of steel, can be upgraded to: Electric cart."

Lu Sheng pressed down on the handle of the cart, and a piece of steel beside him transformed into a stream of light and merged into it.

"The folding stroller will soon be upgraded to an electric stroller, with increased carrying capacity and storage space. Please select the enhancement term:"

1. Dual boost: Enhances motor power, making it faster and stronger, increasing rated full-load speed by 100% to 30km/h, and no-load speed to 50km/h.

2. Kinetic energy recovery: The addition of a kinetic energy recovery system enables the battery to generate its own power and recharge itself on downhill sections, extending the battery's range.

3. Remote Control: The electric stroller is equipped with a network module, allowing it to be controlled via a personal terminal. This upgrade includes front and rear cameras.

Each of the three options had its own strengths. After a moment's thought, Lu Sheng chose the first option, as it was the most suitable for the problem he was about to face.

After the decision was made, the trolley was reconstructed in the light. The original handle became a directional control, and the cargo tray was greatly enlarged. The original size could hold about two bottles of water, but now it can hold six.

Lu Sheng placed the electric hydraulic pliers on the shelf, stood on it himself, then turned the auger, slowly twisted the handle, turned around in the warehouse, and drove the electric trolley out the door.

Today, he drove north along the small road east of the gas station. There were many abandoned cars on the roadside that had been there for who knows how long, and these were his targets.

After stopping next to an abandoned bread truck, he drew his pistol from his waist, checked that it was fully loaded, and then picked up the electric hydraulic pliers and pressed the button on the door lock.

With a snap, the car door lock was broken. He reached out and opened the car door, then went around to the door and the hinge, and put the hydraulic shears on it.

With another snap, the car door was cut off from the vehicle and landed on Lu Sheng's electric stroller.

He used this method to first remove the four doors of the bread cart, and then began to cut the outer shell and stack it onto the cart.

In no time, the entire car looked like it had been gnawed on, becoming mangled and piled up on the cart with neatly cut car fragments.

Time flies, and half the day has passed in the blink of an eye. Lu Sheng used an electric cart to deliver three units of steel back to the warehouse and then returned to search for timber.

With a large number of nocturnal creatures migrating to the surrounding area, the reinforcement of the warehouse suddenly became an urgent matter.

He looked around and parked his electric cart outside a restaurant.

This restaurant has been abandoned for who knows how long. There isn't a single intact piece of glass to be found on the exterior, and the tables and chairs inside are covered with a thick layer of dust.

Lu Sheng carried in the hydraulic shears, disassembled all the tables, chairs, and benches, and then moved them onto the trolley, arranging them neatly.

Wood is lighter than steel, and in places like restaurants, where tables and chairs are almost entirely made of wood, it is also much easier to collect.

Thinking that it wouldn't be as convenient to collect materials as it is now on rainy days, Lu Sheng stopped piling them up until the cart was almost at its load capacity.

The six units of lumber provided completely covered the warehouse's repair needs, with room to upgrade other items.

He looked up at the sky; it was already dusk, and the sky was getting dark. It was time to go back.

At that moment, Lu Sheng heard a familiar voice.

It was a sound like metal clashing together, getting closer and closer.

"Iron-legged Spider!"

He quickly mounted the electric cart, drew his gun, and became alert to his surroundings.

Soon, Lu Sheng saw a six-legged spider, about half a person's height, standing in the shadow of the ruins not far away. It was the Iron-legged Spider that had passed by the gas station last night.

There was only one, seemingly out hunting alone. Because it disliked sunlight, it stopped in the shadows to observe its prey.

No, that's not right.

He suddenly realized that the iron-legged spider he had seen had stopped walking, but the sound of its limbs stepping on the concrete fragments had not stopped for a moment since it started.

Lu Sheng quickly steered the electric cart around the road, and as he turned the cart around, he freed one hand to raise his gun and be alert to his surroundings.

As he expected, not far ahead, two iron-legged spiders were charging towards him under the cover of the ruins.

Lu Sheng immediately twisted the accelerator to the floor, and at the same time freed one hand to raise his gun and aim at the nearest iron-legged spider.

The electric trailer was driven at maximum speed, and the Iron-Footed Spider darted among the ruins, making its figure appear and disappear intermittently. Under these circumstances, it was difficult to even keep an eye on the Iron-Footed Spider, let alone aim at it.

Iron-footed spiders understand this as well.

The Iron-legged Spider, charging at the forefront, used the ruins to conceal itself until it was within attack range, at which point it leaped out from behind the building.

In mid-air, its six legs spread out like iron claws.

boom!

After a gunshot, the Iron-legged Spider that was about to grab Riku was shot down. Riku did not let his guard down and locked his sights on the second Iron-legged Spider.

Seeing its companion die, the iron-footed spider showed no intention of retreating. Instead, it changed its attack angle and prepared to jump onto the land creature's cart first.

Its six legs allowed it to traverse complex terrain like ruins with ease, giving it mobility far exceeding that of humans, but it soon discovered a problem.

He couldn't catch up with the electric cart carrying humans for the time being.

But Lu Sheng did not give up on it; from the moment he left until now, the sights of his pistol have remained firmly locked on it.

boom!

Another shot rang out, and the second iron-legged spider chasing Lu Sheng fell to the ground.

Once he was sure no more creatures of the night were chasing him, Lu Sheng focused on the road ahead. Only after driving into the refueling depot did he put his gun back in its holster.

"You're back! There was a gunshot just now. Are you alright?"

Seeing Lu Sheng return, Lin Ran came over to ask what had happened.

"Three iron-footed spiders played tactics with me. One crouched in the shadows, deliberately letting me see it to distract me, while two used the ruins as cover to try and ambush me."

I dealt with the two that chased after me; I spared the life of the one that didn't.

Lu Sheng spoke in a relaxed tone, and patted the electric stroller again:

"Luckily, this thing is powerful enough that it didn't catch up with me. Iron-footed spiders are best at attacking in complex and narrow terrain. Once they get close, it'll be troublesome."

"It's good that you're alright."

Lin Ran nodded, sighed with satisfaction, and then reported on her work for the day:

"The small gaps have been patched up, but usually, repairs are done by patching the larger ones first, then the smaller ones. Your insistence that I patch the smaller ones first is related to your methods?"

Lu Sheng nodded and looked at the warehouse wall that Lin Ran had repaired.

Several smaller gaps have been repaired, and under his watchful eye, the current material requirements become apparent:

"The damaged refueling warehouse can be repaired and reinforced, requiring 3 units of steel and 3 units of wood."

Steel consumption remained unchanged, but timber consumption decreased by two units.

"The migrating beasts of the night might attack tonight, but thanks to you, they were a step too late."

Lu Sheng thanked Lin Ran and snapped his fingers.
