Chapter 4 Fubuki
Chapter 4 Fubuki
He Quan conjured a large piece of aged steak from a gourmet tablecloth, wrapped it in plastic wrap, and walked into a high-end restaurant that was still open.
He placed the steak in front of the manager.
"Try a bite."
The manager glanced at his hospital gown, then at the marbling of the steak. He cut a small piece, seared it for thirty seconds, and put it in his mouth.
Not long after, He Quan walked into a clothing store with a thick wad of banknotes in his pocket.
Behind the counter stood a young shop assistant with a ponytail, unpacking newly arrived goods.
She looked up, preparing professionally to say "Welcome," and then noticed the hospital gown the visitor was wearing.
Her mouth opened halfway, then stopped.
The man in front of her was wearing a light blue hospital gown with obvious wear marks on the cuffs and the top button of his collar undone. The clothes weren't flattering, but on him, they resembled a silhouette she'd never seen before. His shoulders fell perfectly, and the loose fabric concealed his waistline, making him appear tall and slender.
Her brain raced for three seconds.
So handsome?
What brand's new collection is he wearing?
Deconstructed design in the style of hospital gowns?
Sure enough, handsome guys look good in anything.
"Um..." she began, her voice a little higher than usual, "Do you need any help?"
He Quan glanced at her: "Where's the children's clothing section?"
She pointed in a direction, and He Quan walked over.
She pretended to continue unpacking, while keeping an eye on him out of the corner of her eye.
He picked up a navy blue dress, followed by white tights, a light gray short jacket, and black leather shoes.
He then went to the men's section and picked up a dark gray turtleneck sweater and black trousers.
The curtain in the fitting room was drawn, then opened again after a while.
When he came out, his hospital gown was draped over his arm.
The dark gray sweater clung to her collarbone and shoulders, while the black trousers made her legs look very long.
"I want all of these."
The clerk's hand was a little unsteady when scanning the code.
He Quan pulled a wad of cash from his pocket.
She folded the clothes, put them in a bag, and handed them over with both hands.
"Welcome to visit again."
She regretted it as soon as she said it; it sounded too formal. Perhaps she should have mustered the courage to ask for his contact information?
He Quan took the bag and went out the door.
He returned to his apartment, placed Tornado's clothes at the foot of his bed, and stuffed his own hospital gown into the trash can.
He Quan stood by the bed for a while, then lifted the blanket and lay down.
The mattress sank in. Tornado shifted slightly toward the heat source in her sleep.
He reached out and pulled her into his arms. She was small, curled up in his embrace like a cat that had found warmth.
He Quan closed his eyes.
......
At the same time, on the other side of the city.
The underground stronghold of the "Tsukuyomi" organization.
There were no windows in the room. Fluorescent tubes, embedded in the ceiling grid, emitted a bluish-white light. A row of monitors hung on the wall, one of which was frozen on a blurry image.
A young man in a hospital gown stood on the edge of a deep pit, holding a little girl with green hair in his arms.
"Slow down ten times".
The footage was replayed at one-tenth speed. The frame in which the heat rays shot out of He Quan's eyes was frozen, magnified, and analyzed pixel by pixel.
"There were no signs of power buildup before launch. The beam temperature, estimated to be at least 7,000 degrees Celsius based on the degree of air ionization, expanded from a point to a surface within 0.1 seconds."
The technicians then overlaid another set of data.
"Then came the trampling."
The scene shifts to an aerial view of the research institute ruins. The crater, over a kilometer in diameter, has edges so clean they look like they were molded. The buildings are completely pulverized, concrete reduced to powder, and steel bars flattened and embedded in the soil. The average depth of the sinking is 14.3 meters.
"To achieve this effect, the pressure applied instantaneously needs to exceed the bearing capacity of the foundation..."
That's enough.
The person speaking stood in front of the screen, his back to everyone. The screen's light outlined his slender figure.
"Who is that man?"
Another researcher flipped through the tablet in his hand, his voice dry.
"There is no record. No information about him can be found in the database. No identification number, no medical examination data, no date of admission. The earliest time he appeared on surveillance footage was yesterday afternoon at 3:12 PM, in cell number seven. Before that, the surveillance footage from cell number seven only showed Tornado."
He paused.
"He didn't enter through any known path. At 3:12, he appeared directly in the room."
The room fell silent for a moment.
"How did he get in?"
No one can answer.
The person with their back to the screen remained silent for a while.
"Whom did he take away?"
"The test subject in Cell Seven. His name is Tornado, a telekinetic user. He demonstrated extremely high potential three years ago."
"Do you have a sample of that man?"
No. He destroyed everything.
The man turned around. The light from the screen illuminated half of his face, which remained expressionless.
"Does Tornado's file mention any family members?"
The researchers swiped a few times on the tablet.
"I have a younger sister. Unlike her, no superpowers have been detected so far."
"address."
The researchers reported a location.
"That man is too dangerous; avoid direct contact. Send people to stake out her house and take her sister away."
He walked towards the door.
"Using my sister as leverage is much easier than arresting her directly."
......
When Tornado woke up, sunlight was streaming in through the gap in the curtains.
She stared at the golden strip of light on the floor for a long time.
She sat up. The bed was too big, and her small body sank into the blankets.
Footsteps came from the other end of the corridor.
He Quan appeared at the door.
He changed his clothes. A dark gray turtleneck sweater and black trousers. His hair was a little looser than yesterday, hanging down over his forehead. Morning light shone through the gap in the curtains, casting a thin layer of warm light on his profile.
"woke up?"
Tornado looked at him and blinked.
He stood in the morning light, looking like—she thought for a long time, and an uncertain word popped into her mind.
Good-looking people.
I bought you clothes.
He Quan placed a paper bag at the foot of the bed.
Tornado took the items out one by one.
White pantyhose. Navy blue skirt. Light gray short jacket. Black leather shoes.
She looked at them. Her fingers lightly touched the fabric of the skirt, then withdrew them.
"Try them on, let me help you."
As He Quan spoke, he prepared to remove Long Juan's hospital gown and change her clothes.
Tornado's face flushed slightly, and she quickly stopped them, saying, "I can do it myself!"
"Tsk, fine, fine."
He Quan said disappointedly, then turned and walked out of the room, closing the door behind him.
Tornado: "..."
After a while, the door opened.
Tornado stood in the hallway. White pantyhose encased her slender legs, and the hem of her navy blue skirt reached just to her knees. The sleeves of her light gray coat were a little too long, covering half of her hand. Her black leather shoes had rounded toes, tapping lightly against the wooden floor.
Her green hair was loosely spread over her shoulders. She looked down at the tips of her shoes, then looked up again.
"sleeve."
She stretched out her arm to show him the extra length of her sleeve.
He Quan squatted down and rolled up her sleeve once. Then once more. Her wrists were very thin, the skin so thin that you could see the bluish veins underneath.
"Alright."
He stood up.
Tornado lowered her arms and looked down at her skirt.
"……Thanks."
The voice was very soft, as if she hadn't used the word in a long time.
"Let's go."
......
He Quan stuck the bamboo dragonfly into his hair. It was a small yellow stick with two leaves on it.
The tornado stared at the top of his head for a while.
"What is this?"
"Bamboo dragonfly".
The leaves began to spin. His body lifted off the ground and floated up.
Tornado's expression changed slightly.
She never expected He Quan to fly in such a comical way.
He Quan asked, "What does that expression mean?"
"It's nothing."
Tornado looked away. A pale green glow emanated from her, and she floated up lightly, the hem of her navy blue dress swaying gently.
He Quan reached out and pulled her into his arms. Tornado didn't struggle.
"Give directions."
She pointed in a direction.
The two flew out of the window.
The sun has fully risen.
The streets of Z City spread out below, like an irregularly cut circuit board. The fluorescent light of the tornado and the swirling leaves above He Quan's head cast two small shadows in the morning light, sweeping across the rooftops of the buildings.
We flew over a commercial district, over an old residential area, and over a river. The river water shimmered with a leaden gray light in the sunlight.
Tornado's body stiffened for a moment.
A two-story old house. Gray exterior walls, the windows on the second floor are closed.
The tornado raised its hand, and a pale green fluorescent light flickered as the window shattered on the floor.
A little girl with black hair is sitting on the floor, holding two toys in her hands.
She looked up.
She has facial features similar to a tornado, but her hair is black, her eyes are rounder, and she still has baby fat on her face.
Tornado jumped down from He Quan's arms.
She ran over.
The hem of the navy blue dress fluttered, and her little leather shoes made a rapid thud on the floor.
"Fubuki!"
She hugged her younger sister tightly.
The force was too great; Fubuki was knocked backward. The toy rolled from her hands onto the floor.
"......elder sister?"
The sound of snow falling muffled within Tornado's shoulder.
"Come with me."
Tornado grabbed Fubuki's hand and pulled her towards the window.
Fubuki stumbled a step, was dragged a couple of steps by Tornado, and then stopped.
"Sister, where are we going—"
"Don't ask. Come with me."
Tornado's voice was harsh. But her hand holding Fubuki's was trembling.
Fubuki didn't ask any further questions. She nodded.
Then she saw He Quan.
She looked up. He Quan stood by the window, backlit. His dark gray turtleneck sweater outlined his shoulders. Morning light streamed in from behind him, gilding the edges of his hair with a pale gold glow.
【Ding! 】
[Interacting with the story character Fubuki will trigger two lottery draws.]
Looking at Chuixue, He Quan thought to himself, "Family! I've picked up another wife!"
Fubuki stared at him for a long time.
"Sister," she tugged at Long Juan's sleeve, her voice soft, "this person is so handsome."
Her vocabulary can only describe He Quan as "very good-looking".
Tornado didn't reply. She was pulling Fubuki towards the window.
Just then, the sound of a door being kicked open came from downstairs.
The tornado stopped.
She turned toward the doorway, her eyes glowing with a pale green light.
Four members of the reading group appeared at the end of the corridor.
They were visibly taken aback when they saw Long Juan and He Quan.
Click.
The world stopped.
The wind stopped. The fluorescent light on the tornado solidified into a static green, and Fubuki remained tilted back.
He Quan pressed the pause button on the watch and simultaneously activated the Superman experience card.
In five seconds, he did something.
First, they beat the parents who sold Tornado to death, and then dumped their bodies in front of the four Tsukuyomi members.
He even adjusted his position to make it look like an intruder had stormed in and killed the couple.
Then he walked back to Fubuki's side, picked up Tornado and held her in his arms, and gently pulled Fubuki's hand out of Tornado's hand and took his own hand in hers.
Click.
The wind blew in again.
The glow on Tornado's body began to flow again. Fubuki blinked.
The four men in black looked down and saw the two corpses in front of them.
His neck was broken, and he was face down.
The tornado also saw it.
He Quan's voice came from above her head, laced with schadenfreude: "Wow, your parents were killed by them, and you're an orphan now!"
Tornado: "..."
She only looked for two seconds. The two men who sold her were now lying on the ground.
I didn't feel anything.
Then she raised her hand.
A pale green glow surged out, enveloping the four members of the Tsukuyomi organization. Before they could even utter a sound, the glow tightened and twisted. The floor shattered, bones cracked repeatedly, followed by several dull thuds.
The corridor fell silent.
The tornado lowered its hand, and the glowing light faded.
She turned around and took Fubuki's hand again.
"Walk."
Fubuki didn't speak. She glanced at the corridor, then at Tornado, and then tightened her grip on her sister's hand.
He Quan started spinning the bamboo dragonfly again. He picked up Chuixue, who was even lighter than Tornado, her chubby cheeks rubbing against his sweater. He picked up Tornado with his other hand.
