Chapter 21 Intelligent Fortress
Chapter 21 Intelligent Fortress
Chen Yishang began to calculate the practical issues: "How much heavier... is this system compared to the original bulletproof glass solution?"
"It's actually lighter." Wang Zhengyang pulled up the comparison data. "The original plan: the three composite bulletproof glass panels weighed a total of 470 kilograms, plus the lifting mechanism, motor, and guide rails, totaling about 650 kilograms. The new plan: the armor plate adds about 200 kilograms, the sensor array about 80 kilograms, the display system about 120 kilograms, and the processor and cables about 100 kilograms. The total is 500 kilograms, a reduction of 150 kilograms."
"What about power consumption?"
"200 watts in standby mode, and 1800 watts during peak operation of the entire system." Wang Zhengyang demonstrated the power supply design. "We have a dedicated backup power module, which can ensure that the sensing system can continue to work for 48 hours even if the main power fails."
Lin Luoer offered another perspective: "Won't drivers experience dizziness or fatigue from prolonged screen viewing? After all, it's not a natural field of vision."
"Several measures." Wang Zhengyang had clearly considered this issue. "First, the display refresh rate is 120Hz, completely eliminating flicker. Second, the image undergoes specialized color calibration and dynamic range optimization to simulate the characteristics of human vision. Third, the system monitors the driver's condition—detecting blink frequency and head posture through a facial camera. If signs of fatigue are detected, it will automatically adjust the screen brightness and contrast, and may even suggest a rest."
Chen Yishang remained silent for a long time before finally speaking: "Dr. Wang, this system... has exceeded my understanding of 'train modification.' It's more like the cockpit design of a next-generation combat vehicle. What exactly are you...?"
He didn't finish his sentence, but the meaning was clear: Who exactly are you? Why do you know all this?
Wang Zhengyang looked at him and Lin Luoer and slowly said, "There are some things I can't tell you right now. You just need to know that we are carrying out an overseas testing mission for a national-level heavy equipment."
"Finally, and most importantly: the rooftop platform and its connection to the command center." Wang Zhengyang switched the view to a top-down view of the rooftop.
The original bare roof is now covered with eight raised platforms.
"The corner fittings are ISO 668 standard specifications, but the materials and processes are military standard." He zoomed in on one of the platforms. "The material is 34CrNiMo6 special alloy steel, using a dual process of vacuum induction melting and electroslag remelting to ensure extremely high purity. Forging is done using a 10,000-ton hydraulic press for integral die forging, resulting in complete fiber flow lines. Heat treatment: quenching + high-temperature tempering, tempered to HRC34-36, achieving the optimal balance between strength and toughness."
On the platform, the four locking structures are clearly visible. "Each locking has a rated load of 8 tons, and the four lockings can theoretically hold a load of 32 tons. However, we designed it according to the most stringent working conditions: the overall tensile strength of a single base is not less than 12 tons, the shear strength is not less than 18 tons, and the torsional moment is not less than 25 ton-meters."
"The installation precision requirements are insane." Chen Yishang looked at the marked tolerances. "Flatness 0.3 mm, lock center distance 0.8 mm... This requires real-time calibration with a laser tracker."
"The Leica AT960 absolute laser tracker has been rented and will arrive tomorrow," Wang Zhengyang said. "The construction process is as follows: first, use a total station to lay out the layout on the roof of the vehicle and drill positioning holes; install temporary adjustment fixtures; hoist the base for initial positioning; scan and measure with the laser tracker; fine-tune with the hydraulic fine-tuning device; and finally, inject high-strength chemical anchors."
He explained the installation procedure for chemical anchors: "M24×350 mm, drill hole diameter 28 mm, depth 400 mm. After drilling, clean the hole three times with a special brush and high-pressure air gun to ensure it is dust-free. The anchoring adhesive uses high-performance products from Fischer in Germany, which are stable in the range of -40°C to +80°C. The adhesive should be fully injected, and there should be an appropriate amount of overflow adhesive after the bolt is inserted."
"During the curing process, the base position must remain absolutely stable," Wang Zhengyang emphasized. "Any slight displacement will cause uneven stress on the anchor bolts. Therefore, a fixed bracket with a dial indicator must be used to lock it in place, and the displacement data must be checked every two hours for continuous monitoring for 24 hours."
Chen Yishang smiled wryly: "This is even more stringent than installing a satellite dish."
"Because these bases may be more important than satellite antennas in the future." Wang Zhengyang did not elaborate, but Chen Yishang had already guessed a bit—radar, weapon stations, or even missile launchers.
"Next is the central nervous system." Wang Zhengyang turned the camera to the connection between the locomotive and the second carriage.
What was originally just a simple passageway and windbreak will now be transformed into a sturdy walkway.
"Create a through passageway 1.2 meters wide and 2 meters high." The cross-sectional diagram shows the passageway structure. "The passageway walls are protected to the same level as the driver's cab. The doors are double-leaf hydraulically sealed doors with air pressure balance valves. The door frames have a labyrinthine sealing structure, achieving an IP67 protection rating when closed, providing dust and water resistance."
"Third cable tray: Reserved. An empty conduit will be pre-installed so that cables can be added in the future."
He zoomed in on a set of interface boxes at the top of the channel: "These are neural interface nodes. Seven sets of multi-functional interface bundles."
Lin Luo'er lightly touched the screen, zooming in on the sealing structure of an interface: "Is the material of this O-ring... fluororubber?"
"Yes." Wang Zhengyang glanced at her, somewhat surprised that she could recognize him. "Fluororubber is resistant to high temperatures, oil, and chemicals, and maintains its elasticity within a range of -40°C to +250°C. Each joint has a double seal: an O-ring plus injection-molded sealant."
Chen Yishang pondered, "Through these interfaces, the command center can completely take over the locomotive?"
"It's not just about taking over, it's about deep integration." Wang Zhengyang pulled up the control system architecture diagram. "The command center is the brain, and the locomotive is the limbs. Through this neural pathway, the brain can directly control every movement of the limbs—and with millisecond-level response."
He demonstrated a data flow diagram: "The driver's control commands are processed by the cab control system and simultaneously sent to the local controller on the locomotive and the main control computer in the command center. The two systems operate in parallel, and the results are cross-checked. If the command center detects an error in the local controller's command—such as an accidental emergency braking at high speed—it can instantly reject it and take over control."
"Conversely, the command center can also send instructions directly to the locomotive." Wang Zhengyang switched the screen. "For example, in automatic driving mode, the command center's navigation computer can automatically plan routes, control speeds, and execute track changes based on GPS/inertial navigation data, combined with electronic maps and real-time traffic conditions. The driver only needs to monitor the status and intervene when necessary."
Chen Yishang took a deep breath: "This is no longer just a train... this is an intelligent mobile fortress."
