Chapter 329: The War Begins!
Chapter 329: The War Begins!
"Really...really?!"
With great excitement, Connor suddenly shouted into the radio at Gavin.
"You've arrived! Hahaha, you...you've finally arrived!"
"Two days! My God, I've waited two whole days! I've finally waited for you, Mazefakr!"
"What am I supposed to do? Damn it, tell me what I'm supposed to do! Bring my men and find where those bastards are hiding! No problem, I'm going to fucking kill them all, kill them all without leaving a single one alive! Aaaaaah!!!"
The radio communication ended there. Even after Gavin widened his eyes slightly and tried to contact Connor again, no sound came through the radio.
This made Gavin a little upset; he hadn't expected Connor to be this kind of guy at heart.
In the past few days, Connor's personality has seemed a bit weak. After all, he was not only beaten to a pulp by the biker gang, but he was also chased around and turned into the New Mexico runaway Connor.
So, was he actually a reckless person?
What Gavin didn't know was that just as Connor uttered that final curse, "Mazefak," Connor, in his excitement, grabbed the communicator and stood up, pulling the radio to the ground!
The sudden malfunction of the radio left Connor completely bewildered, as were the three people standing next to him.
However, after a brief moment of confusion, Connor grabbed the arm of the guy next to him and shouted.
"Finn, gather everyone who can still fight. Damn it, Gavin and his men are nearby! Didn't you hear them? They're right there!"
"It's time for our revenge! Hahaha, we should get our revenge on those damned biker bastards!"
"Think of Thomas Muller, think of Geoffrey Barrett, think of all our comrades killed by the biker gang—it's time for us to avenge them!"
"Tie up those two grave-digging lunatics, tie them up tightly, and don't let them cause any more trouble in the camp!"
"The rest of you, take your guns and smoke grenades. We have to make a scene so Gavin doesn't look down on us, damn it!" As soon as he finished speaking, Connor started spinning around in circles like a madman.
After spinning around several times, he finally realized what was happening and found his gun.
Hearing Connor's words, Finn, who had been pulled aside by Connor, was clearly a little worried. Finn pondered for a moment and then said to Connor,
"Connor, are you fucking crazy? We only have a dozen or so guys left who can fight, we can't compete with that biker gang!"
"Gavin and his gang are here, so let them fight! Damn it, we don't owe them money, why should we raid the biker gang before them? That would be a damn loss!"
"Isn't what Gavin wants population? Didn't we agree to dump all those old, weak, sick, and disabled people in the camp on them? Are we supposed to hire them to fight while also sending another wave of them to their deaths? How come Gavin gets all the good things..."
"Shut up, Finn!"
Just as Finn, one of Connor's squad leaders, was speaking, a bald, slightly thin, and rough-skinned white man with a shiny lithium-ion head, standing about 1.85 meters tall, suddenly interrupted Finn.
The bald man frowned and pulled Finn's arm, saying...
"What you're saying is utter nonsense, Finn. That's incredibly stupid, you know? Absolutely stupid!"
"The current situation is that we have to follow Gavin's orders, because if we don't, damn it, do you think that if Gavin's team can handle the biker gang, they can go a step further and take out our dozen or so capable fighters as well?"
"We are indeed willing to entrust the elderly, the infirm, and the disabled to Gavin as a condition for Gavin to help us."
"But don't forget, if Gavin kills us, not only will our old, weak, and disabled be taken, but even our women will belong to them!"
"So stop fucking dawdling. I don't want to face Gavin and the biker gang at the same time, so damn it, grab your gun and get to work!"
At this point, the bald man glared fiercely at Finn.
Finn moved his lips as if he wanted to say something, but ultimately held back.
He stopped swearing and then spoke softly in a lack of force.
"Brody, you're exaggerating a bit. We don't even know what kind of people Gavin brought. What if they can't beat the bikers either?"
"Fuck you, Finn! Can't you use your pig brain for a second? Just think about what you're supposed to be doing!"
Faced with Finn's persistent questioning, Brody, his slicked-back hair gleaming, cursed angrily, then grabbed Finn by the collar and yelled at Finn and the others, "When you treat Gavin's men as enemies, don't forget, the fucking bikers are our real enemies!"
"As for Gavin and his gang, Gavin isn't our enemy until we deal with the biker gang, understand?"
"As for whether Gavin's men will be a match for the biker gang, you fucking use your brain, okay?"
"If Gavin's men can take down the biker gang, they can easily take down us too. So we must obey Gavin's orders, or at least not anger him, understand?"
"If even Gavin's men can't beat the bikers, then Gavin's arrival is our last chance to deal with them, understand?"
"Regardless of the fighting strength of Gavin's men, we need to do our part, because this battle has nothing to do with Gavin's people from the beginning. This is a battle between us and the biker gang. We must defeat the Three Orph!"
At this point, bald Brody kicked Finn hard in the butt. Finn then strode up to Connor and said, "Uncle, did you hear me? We need to get ready quickly. It's time for us to settle accounts with the biker gang."
"They chased us for hundreds of kilometers, killed over a dozen of our comrades, and forced us to hide!" "And now, it's our turn to take them down!"
At this point, Brody glared fiercely at Connor.
Connor took a deep breath, then nodded heavily and growled.
"Yes, Brody is absolutely right, that's exactly what I meant, damn it!"
"Quick, quick, pack your gear! Put on all the police bulletproof vests we found earlier, hurry!"
"If I'm not mistaken, those biker gangs are definitely hiding in the airport and farms near the water source. Let's go there and give them a run. Gavin and the others will definitely be with us, they definitely will!"
At this point, Connor, along with the few remaining combat-ready soldiers under his command, quickly began packing up their equipment.
Meanwhile, about eight kilometers away from the Brotherhood camp.
It's just at the far end of that lake and airport.
Gavin strode away from the truck where the radio was located, speaking as he walked toward his armored vehicle.
"Eugene, are there any suitable sniping spots around here? I haven't noticed any good high ground nearby."
"Indeed, boss, I can't find any particularly good sniping spots, but if all else fails, I can make do lying on the RV." Eugene said to Gavin while holding a TAC50 and thinking.
"I brought a TAC, which is an anti-materiel weapon. If Connor wasn't lying, then the biker gang should have at least two machine gun pickup trucks, and my bullets will definitely send those two pickup trucks to meet Satan."
"But I need cover, boss. You and Edward should lead a team in armored vehicles to ambush the bikers from a distance, so that the machine gun truck and RV won't be easily hit."
"Of course, we still need to let those bastards from the Brotherhood launch a surprise attack first. We came all this way from thousands of kilometers away, not to be their babysitters. We need to make those bastards do some work!"
At this point, Eugene raised his right hand and bumped fists with Gavin before striding toward the armored vehicle where his squad was located.
He leaned out of the car window and spoke to Martin, who was driving the armored vehicle.
"Martin, I'm leaving squad leadership to you. I'm going to take my spotter and deal with the machine gun pickup truck."
"I know, you bastard. But your spotter is Adriana, right? Tsk tsk, I really hope you two don't start having sex right there in the RV." Martin smiled and waved to Eugene. Eugene cursed Martin and then took Adriana away from the armored vehicle, replacing them with other members.
Meanwhile, Gavin and Edward continued walking towards the lead vehicle and stood next to the War Shield's cargo hold.
Upon arriving here, Edward glanced at the heavy machine guns standing atop the open cargo hold of the War Shield and frowned.
"Hopefully, the biker gang doesn't have a sniper, otherwise, our machine gunners might be in danger."
"Yes, indeed, so let the Brotherhood launch the first attack."
Gavin opened the passenger door as he spoke.
"We came all this way not to fight for the Brotherhood, but because they themselves aren't willing to fight for us. Then... Edward, you know what we should do, right?"
"Of course, boss. If they hide and don't go to the battlefield, then after we take down the biker gang, we can also clean up the Brotherhood."
Edward gave a curt laugh, then tapped on the passenger window where Gavin was sitting, and continued speaking.
"However, the combat environment in New Mexico is really terrible, boss. It's so open that there isn't even any cover to be found. There are only a few tumbleweeds and cacti that can barely block the view, but those things can't stop our convoy."
"Moreover, we had no opportunity to infiltrate and obtain intelligence, so we had no idea about the distribution of the biker gang's armed forces, let alone whether they had buried landmines or anything like that."
"So, boss, since we don't have much room to hide, let's just approach them directly on the main road. If the Brotherhood is willing to launch a surprise attack, the gunfire will guide us to them."
"Besides, boss, let my car lead the way. I'm worried they might plant landmines, and I'll keep an eye on the road. You just follow behind me, so we don't actually run into those landmine bastards!"
At this point, Edward looked at Gavin seriously.
Gavin's expression darkened, and he looked into Edward's eyes through the car window.
After a few seconds of silent eye contact, Gavin nodded slightly, then rolled down the car window and patted Edward on the shoulder.
"Do as you say, but take care of yourself, Edward."
"That's right, boss. You're the most important, you know? You're the most important!"
Seeing that Gavin didn't insist on being the lead vehicle, Edward breathed a sigh of relief, then laughed and grabbed Gavin's shoulder. At that moment, Edward's smile grew even brighter, and he whispered something.
"Boss, although you're a legendary marksman and a rapid-fire revolver expert, you've actually seen too few battlefields." "But me, believe me, I've fought for over a decade. Walking through bullets is like coming home to me. I'll take care of myself."
"Of course, if anything really happens to me, boss, remember to take good care of Jennifer. That girl deserves a happy life." "Everything for the future of humanity, everything for our home, and everything for you, Boss!"
At this point, Edward patted Gavin heavily on the shoulder.
Gavin nodded slightly, then grabbed Edward's wrist and pointed to his car.
Edward nodded and returned to his car, moving it to the front of the line.
Meanwhile, Gavin, sitting in the passenger seat, gave the other three people in the car a bright smile and said...
"Madison, Barnes, and Wang, now it's time for the real battlefield. Are you nervous?"
"Boss, you're probably the only one who's nervous. After all, what you fear most is losing us, but none of us are afraid to give our lives for the future of the camp!"
Madison excitedly grabbed Gavin's wrist and shouted back at him.
After he responded, Wang Ling and Barn nodded heavily, agreeing with Madison's statement.
Upon hearing this, Gavin took a deep breath, then solemnly picked up the walkie-talkie.
He licked his lips, then pressed the call button on his walkie-talkie and addressed all the men carrying walkie-talkies.
"Guys, quickly check your gear, make sure everyone is wearing their body armor and helmets, and don't forget to check your firearms!"
"New Mexico is a vast, open environment, making it impossible for us to sneak up on the biker gang. Therefore, we will now launch a frontal assault and inflict devastation upon them!"
"As soon as the sound of gunfire rang out in the distance, we immediately began our operation. Three armored vehicles advanced first to the battlefield, and after the armored vehicles had traveled at least 500 meters, the motorhomes and trucks followed!"
"Everyone, heed every order from your captain and vice-captain. This time, our opponents aren't just mindless zombies, so protect yourselves!"
"To me, each of you protecting yourself from injury is far more satisfying than how many enemies you kill!" "Get ready, we're ready to go at any time!"
After speaking, Gavin put away the walkie-talkie, then picked up his binoculars and silently looked at the lake that was faintly visible in the distance.
Even the large lake, which is a kilometer in diameter, was barely visible, let alone the small airport near the lake and the vehicles that might be parked around it. Gavin couldn't see anything at all.
However, there's no need to see it, because this place is too open. If a gunfight breaks out in the distance, the gunshots and explosions will travel at an extraordinary speed.
The sound might not be clear enough, but Gavin was sure he could hear it.
While Gavin remained silent and waited, one car after another arrived.
The men silently checked their weapons, while others pressed their hands against their bulletproof vests and prayed silently.
On the RV, Jonathan, holding his rifle, carefully inspected it before looking up at the armed priest, Hogan. "Father!"
He suddenly asked Hogan.
"Why don't you pray for us? I thought you'd be clutching your crucifix right now!"
"Because the gaze of the gods can only help us dodge bullets, but cannot protect us from them, and now, I also enjoy praying while clutching the bulletproof plates!"
Hogan smiled and responded to Jonathan, then picked up a bulletproof plate, clutched it in his hand, and silently prayed.
Seeing the bulletproof plate in the priest's hand, the guys in the RV all breathed a sigh of relief, their mood much lighter.
Meanwhile, on the roof of the RV.
Eugene used a rope to wrap around the window of the RV, secured several knots, and then held onto the knots to secure himself.
As he secured it, he spoke to Adriana beside him.
"Anna, I brought you to such a dangerous place, won't you hate me?"
"hatred?"
Upon hearing Eugene's words, Adriana grinned, immediately wanting to make a sarcastic remark.
But when she saw Eugene's eyes, her teasing vanished instantly, because Eugene had entered a state of wartime readiness. Adriana knew Eugene suffered from PTSD; they had fought together dozens of times during the apocalypse, and she was very familiar with his condition. As a strategic sniper and observer operating in the Middle East, Eugene had killed countless children who might have been used as suicide bombers, and had assisted snipers in eliminating leaders of opposing forces on numerous occasions.
As for breaking the enemy's legs, letting the enemy scream in agony near the bunker, attracting more enemy reinforcements and then surrounding and attacking the reinforcements, Eugene did far too many of those things.
In this environment, it was almost inevitable that Eugene would develop PTSD, which was also the main reason why he left the army due to injury and illness and eventually ended up living a life of idleness at his sister's house.
The U.S. military places great importance on mental health issues like PTSD, especially among soldiers in special forces units. This isn't purely out of humanitarian concern; the main reason is that the U.S. military genuinely dislikes soldiers dying in action, regardless of the cause.
The military pays a large sum in compensation for every soldier killed in action, but pays very little for dismissing a wounded or mentally ill soldier.
In short, it is precisely because of his past experience in the military that Eugene now appears somewhat overly neurotic and dangerous once he is in combat.
Adriana paused for a moment, then bent down to tighten the fasteners for Eugene.
"You're the best sniper, Red Hair."
She spoke seriously to Eugene.
"As your spotter, we'll be so far from the battlefield that enemy bullets won't even be able to hit us!"
"You didn't lead me into danger, you know that, darling? You used your bullets and your incredible range to create the safest environment for me on the entire battlefield, and I will always believe in your abilities!"
As soon as she finished speaking, Adriana leaned over the RV, moved close to Eugene's face, and gently kissed Eugene's furrowed brow.
Just as Eugene was about to respond, suddenly, a faint sound came from the air... like a series of tiny soap bubbles gently bursting, making Eugene lick his lips in a fierce manner.
"Boss!"
Eugene took out a walkie-talkie and spoke in a low voice.
"They've started! I hear those familiar gunshots!"
"Roger that, armored vehicles deployed."
Gavin responded in a low voice, and then Edward's car took the lead, leading the remaining two armored vehicles across the road, and quickly rushed towards the lake and the airport.
