Chapter 230 Marin City! (6k)
"trouble?"
Upon hearing Philip's greeting, Gavin immediately stood up and waved to Philip.
"What's the trouble? My camp has enough supplies for just one person, and I don't mind having another traveler like Philip."
"Come with me. We'll take your things to your room first, and then I'll show you around our camp."
"It's been a while since I walked my dog. If you're interested, we can ride horses to the nearby area to go fishing, and then find a few lone zombies to shoot."
At this point, Gavin waved to Philip again, urging him on.
Seeing Gavin's enthusiasm, Philip shrugged and said somewhat nervously.
"You haven't answered my real question yet, sir. What I want to ask isn't whether it's troublesome or not, but whether there are other people in the world like me?"
"This one~"
When Philip pressed for an answer, Gavin nodded thoughtfully and chuckled softly.
"Of course, Philip. The world is vast, and no one of any kind is unique. I believe that anyone who searches will find like-minded people."
"Besides you, I've also met an excellent father and son, Johnny and Angelo, who are also very good extreme athletes."
"I met them after they fled to my farm for refuge. They, like you, had their own reasons for not wanting to stay with me."
"You are not the only one, Philip. I said goodbye to those two friends of theirs in the past, and I will also wish you well when you want to leave in the future."
At this point, Gavin couldn't help but recall the father and son he had seen in the forest years ago.
No one knows where the two of them went. Have they returned to Boston and reunited with their families? Or have they been mercilessly swallowed up by the dangerous world under the apocalypse?
Gavin doesn't actually like to give blessings to others, because whenever you bless someone, it's because you've guessed that they've fallen into misery.
So, Gavin shook off his unease and waved to Philip for the third time, saying...
"Don't just stand there like an idiot. Come on, let me find you a room first. Is there anything else you need?"
"No, most of my things are in my bag. But if your camp has a drug ban, then gun bans too, right? I don't want to be without my gun, you know, that's what real security is!"
As Philip answered, he patted the pistol at his waist.
Gavin shook his head and walked towards the stairs, responding.
"I don't ban guns because guns are just one of the means of killing, not the only one. Compared to that, what my team and I should be doing most is figuring out whether a customer like you has any bad intentions."
As he spoke, Gavin traversed more than eighty meters to reach the stairs.
Philip followed Gavin up the steps and smiled.
"You're really confident. I like people like you, haha. And your house is way prettier than the White House, buddy."
"I don't deny that, because I also look down on the White House; it's too old-fashioned and lacks modernity and a sense of technology."
The two bantered back and forth before heading to the second-floor accommodation area.
As he sat on the second-floor corridor, Nikita, who had just changed into her everyday clothes, happened to come out of her room.
Gavin's air conditioning is on 24/7, and there's a big temperature difference between indoors and outdoors.
While Gavin was jumping off the roof, Nikita went back to her room to change.
Upon seeing Nikita, Philip paused for a moment, then finally couldn't help but whistle.
"call out!"
After the whistle blew, Philip shouted to Nikita with shining eyes.
"My God, I never imagined there was such a beautiful woman as you in this world. May I know your name, my angel~"
"Um?"
Faced with Philip's harassment, Nikita was slightly taken aback, then shook her head with amusement and walked silently to Gavin's side.
Nikita reached out and hooked her arm around Gavin's, asking him a question.
"Honey, he's that lone wolf, right? His personality is definitely like an old-school cowboy in the movies, always a bit 'unzipped' on his lips~"
As she spoke, Nikita turned to Philip and waved, giving him a mischievous, playful smile.
And Philip—
Seeing Nikita walking with Gavin, his face instantly turned as pale as Nikita's.
Even the red marks from sunburn on rednecks have faded considerably.
"I knew it!"
He looked pale and gave Gavin a bitter smile.
"No beautiful woman can escape the clutches of a big boss, especially one as famous as the superstar Gavin. So, poor me, all I can do is wish you a happy life~"
"Haha, thank you so much, Philip."
Gavin smiled and waved, then led him to an empty room.
There are only about two-thirds of the rooms left in the camp. Gavin estimates that, under extreme circumstances, his estate can accommodate about 350 people, at which point he will have to consider converting the other recreational rooms into residences.
However, at least for now, there are still quite a few empty rooms. Gavin pushed open the door and showed Philip his room.
"Buddy, this is your room for the next few days. You can stay as long as you want, or even forever. I'd be more satisfied if you did."
"In addition, each room has a wardrobe and a variety of clothing for potential guests. Although not many, each size has at least two sets of everyday clothes available for both men and women."
"And cowboy hats, which are a cultural symbol of Texas, so every bedroom has its own walk-in closet."
"Good heavens, I just noticed that too. It turns out that each of our bedrooms is at least 90 square meters. That's a bit of a waste, haha~"
Amidst laughter, Gavin left the room to Philip alone, then led Nikita out of the room and, standing in the doorway, said to Philip one last time, "Go take a shower first, Philip. I'll wait for you in the lobby after you've changed."
"Okay, Gavin, thank you so much for your hospitality!"
Philip nodded excitedly to Gavin, then tossed his backpack aside on the sofa, closed the door, and eagerly stripped naked and rushed into the bathroom.
For a lone wolf like him, searching for a house is actually quite simple, but finding a house with a water pump that allows him to take a shower once the power is restored is not so easy.
He hasn't showered for almost five days.
After Gavin closed the door, he led Nikita to the living room, sat on the sofa, picked up the walkie-talkie, and spoke.
"I am Gavin, Eugene, and Thomas. You two come to the lobby to see me, and hurry up."
"Yes, sir, I'll be there soon," Thomas replied immediately.
"Huh? Boss? Are you sure it's something urgent? I'm busy masturbating right now!"
Eugene called out to Gavin with a wicked grin.
Upon hearing this, Gavin and all the guys with walkie-talkies, after a brief moment of stunned silence, couldn't help but burst into laughter.
Gavin laughed loudly while pressing the call button and shouting.
"Haha, you piece of shit, get your ass out here in the lobby! I want to see you within a minute!"
"Okay, okay, haha!"
Eugene roared in response, then swiftly pushed open the door.
The whole "gagging" thing is just a joke. He's just a jerk who likes to liven things up, but it's not that outrageous.
Seeing Eugene leave, Gavin raised his right hand in annoyance and gave Eugene the middle finger.
Eugene, unabashedly, bent his knees and straightened his back, making a hip-thrusting motion towards Gavin. Then, with a wicked grin, he walked into the living room, sat down on his sofa, and asked...
"Boss, what great idea did that lone wolf from out of town bring you that made you call Thomas and me over here?"
"A good idea?"
Upon hearing this, Gavin excitedly pulled out a map, unfolded it on the tea table, and pointed to Cedar Park and Granite Beach near Austin.
"He brought more than just good ideas; he brought the locations of two damn survivor camps!"
"Watfuck?"
Before Gavin could finish speaking, Eugene couldn't help but stand up excitedly and shout exaggeratedly at Gavin.
"Are you sure what you're saying is true? No, no, are you sure what that lone wolf said is true, boss?"
"Not just one, but two entire camps?"
"If that's true, why don't those camps contact us by radio like Ranch 6666?"
"On the map, they're closer to us than Ranch 6666 is to us!"
At this point, Eugene instinctively became worried.
This is his habit; he never hesitates to assume the worst about others.
Gavin, after hearing Eugene's words, crossed his legs, spread his hands, and replied.
"I can't guess what they're thinking, but I imagine most survivors who made it out of the apocalypse probably prefer to imagine the post-apocalyptic world as a dark forest?"
"We are indeed broadcasting, but who knows how many people are listening to us, and who is willing to wholeheartedly believe me?"
"Without seeing us with your own eyes, would you be willing to imagine our lives as harmonious as they are now?"
"We must understand their concerns, Eugene; we also need to verify their existence!"
At this point, Gavin raised his hand and pointed on the map, marking several points with a pen.
As he spoke, Gavin continued.
"It just so happens that I've always had a plan to build several safe houses in relatively remote locations around us, where our explorers can take short breaks and hide."
"Therefore, for this mission to track down the two camps near Austin, I don't plan to use helicopters. Instead, I plan to have our explorers spread out over land."
"Based on the locations of the two camps that the Mavericks have mentioned, I have selected several locations that are within a reasonable distance and plan to send people to spend a few days searching for and building safe houses in these locations."
"Let me think. We are about 360 kilometers away from the two camps. Let's build a simple safe house every 100 kilometers away from the camps. These are some locations I have selected."
"Take a look at these locations and see if they're feasible. If we all think they're okay, I'll start this afternoon and build the first safe house."
"Really? So soon? Starting this afternoon?"
Upon hearing Gavin's words, Eugene frowned and looked at the map, pausing for a moment at the points Gavin had marked.
After considering for a while, Eugene took out a cigar, lit it, and said, puffing out smoke.
"Our first choice is Marin City. It's about 140 kilometers away from us, which isn't too far. The local people's livelihood should be good. The city isn't very big, but the municipal facilities shown on the map are quite complete."
"Let me see, haha, this small city even has a Walmart store and logistics distribution center! Even if it's not a suitable place to live, Walmart's huge warehouse is definitely worth a visit!"
"Furthermore, Richard Town isn't on our way to Marin City, so we have a high chance of avoiding the mobile zombie hordes that change due to Richard Town."
"Boss, let's set off together this afternoon, and bring Mrs. Kim and Jonathan along too. I like that rascal from the cowboys, haha~"
At this point, Eugene clapped his hands at Gavin.
Gavin continued, pointing to the map.
"Stop thinking about who to take, you bastards! Our main priority is choosing a route to the survivor camp near Austin!"
"Marin City is just one node on this road. Only with such nodes can we create the safest possible post-apocalyptic exploration network."
"But don't just look at Marin City, let's look at the other stops as well. After we arrive in Marin City, we can go from Marin City to Granger Lake, and then from Granger Lake to the Cedar Park that Philip mentioned. What do you think of this route?"
"Oh? Lake Granger?"
Eugene tilted his head and agreed, then looked at the lake, which was neither too big nor too small, and said.
"Boss, I've never been to Granger Lake, so I don't know what the surrounding area is like!"
"You know, I'm just a fucking nobody at the bottom of society, the kind who could be thrown into the sewers at any time, or dumped on the beach and have my eyes eaten by seagulls, haha."
"I'm not exactly a world traveler. You'd better ask other people if anyone's been to Marin City and Granger Lake, especially Cedar Park!"
At this point, Eugene simply pulled out his walkie-talkie and waved it at Gavin.
Gavin couldn't help but pat his hat and laugh.
"You're right, I really forgot about that, damn it!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Gavin immediately took out his walkie-talkie and said...
"Guys, has anyone been to Marin and Granger Lake, which are between us and Austin, as well as Cedar Park and Granite Beach? Anyone who has been, come to the lobby right now!"
After he finished speaking, Gavin picked up the walkie-talkie and waited.
A moment later, responses gradually came from the walkie-talkie.
"Boss, it's Kelvin. I've fished at Granger Lake and the Granite Beach. I'll be right back!"
"Boss, I'm Doris. I've been to Cedar Park more than once, you know. My home is in San Antonio, and Austin is very close to us."
Yes, Cedar Park is the actual city name.
To be precise, Cedar Park is not just a park; it is actually a district of Austin, or a satellite city, and one of the wealthy cities that borders Austin, the capital of Texas.
The whole place is like a large, wealthy neighborhood.
Doris's family was never poor, as evidenced by the RV and luxury telescope they owned.
It's quite normal for families like theirs to frequently hold team-building activities at places like Cedar Park.
Upon hearing this, Gavin nodded knowingly; his only remaining target was Marin City.
A moment later, the walkie-talkie rang again, and zt spoke in his rap-like accent.
"Ah ha, boss, I was just telling a Florida joke and your question got broadcast over the air."
"But I've been to Marin City, and I know there's a huge gathering of radio broadcasters there. I almost forgot! You can definitely find a lot of radio equipment there, including all kinds of repeaters you're looking for!"
"If you need me, I'll say goodbye to my audience right away and come to the lobby to find you."
"Okay, come over here, let's talk about Marin City."
Gavin spoke to ZT, who then continued speaking on his radio after hanging up the walkie-talkie.
"Sorry, guys, it seems our joke time is coming to an early end. Let's switch to Gavin's zombie survival manual, written by the boss himself!"
After finishing speaking, zt turned on the recording to replace his narration, and then left the broadcasting room and walked towards the lobby.
As he left the broadcasting room, his voice, including his brief conversation with Gavin on the walkie-talkie, was transmitted to countless radios via radio signals.
And the instant the sound finally stopped—
In Marin, Walmart's Southwest Storage Area, Warehouse 6, northeast corner, on a messy bed made up of several mattresses.
The young man, who was listening to the radio completely naked, suddenly jumped up from the dim light of the flashlight!
"Mazefakl!!!"
Sean Wright let out an incredulous roar.
"What did they just say?!"
"What the hell did they just say?!"
"Did Gavin ask about Marin City? Good heavens!"
"Answer me right now, did they ask that? Did they?!"
At this point, Sean slammed his fist on his head, then threw himself in front of the radio, hugging it as he continued speaking.
"Yes, I heard that clearly, they really did mention Marin City!"
"Let me think—yes, I am indeed trapped in this damn warehouse, but it's a fucking Walmart warehouse, there are so many supplies here, really so many, I can't possibly eat them all by myself, haha, I can't possibly eat them all, hahahahaha!!!"
"etc!"
Just as he involuntarily let out a terrifying laugh, he suddenly raised his right hand and slapped himself hard across the face.
Snapped!
After the loud slap, Sean cupped his face, swallowed hard, and reminded himself.
"Stop fucking crazy, Sean, calm down, don't scare your angels!"
"Think carefully, think quickly. Didn't you already prepare for their rescue? What's the first thing you'll say when you see them?"
"Let me think—yes, I've got it! First, we need to find that damn warehouse manager, then take his basket off and shove it into his mouth!!!"
"No, shit, that's not it. I mean—I should thank the person who saved me first—waaaaaaah—I should say thank you—waaaaaaah!!!"
At this point, Sean curled up in pain, covering his face with his hands.
Walmart's warehouses are so quiet, really.
He was inside and couldn't hear anything outside!
He even felt like he was the only person left in the whole world!
If he hadn't found the flashlight and batteries...
If he hadn't found the radio and received the Gavin Camp program...
He felt he probably went insane long ago!
But even now, he's still unsure if he's gone mad!
Especially when he heard about Marin City on the radio, he wasn't even sure if he was dreaming or in reality.
What he heard—was it a dream, a hallucination caused by his mental illness, or simply an auditory hallucination?
Thinking of this, Sean grabbed the radio as if pleading for help, turning the volume up much louder, hoping to hear any news related to Marin City.
But he couldn't hear it, because the voice on the radio had become the zombie survival manual that had been repeated countless times!
"Damn it!"
Sean even wanted to smash that damn sound, because he could practically recite the zombie survival manual by heart!
That's not what he wants to hear!
no! ! !
Thinking of this, Sean impulsively picked up the radio—
but----
After a brief standoff, he put down the radio and threw himself naked onto the open ground outside the bed.
He was seen running and jumping, crying and laughing in the dim light.
"They will find me!"
"No—Waaaaah, they won't! Nobody cares about me, nobody!"
"No, no, no, even if they didn't come to me, they would still come to Walmart for supplies. It's Walmart, haha, thank you Walmart!"
"Waaaaah, it can't be, it's all an illusion, I want to go home!"
"Bullshit!"
"Mazefak————"
"Damn it, I really want a hot hamburger!"
"Those shitty potato chips!"
Slurp—
Duang!
Sean was laughing and cursing when suddenly he seemed to step on something and fell to the ground.
A moment later, Sean got up, looking bewildered, and looked at what he had stepped on.
"Damn it—"
At this moment, Sean neither cried nor laughed; his expression was reduced to one of disgust!
Because he stepped in his own poop, which he had wrapped in a towel!
"Damn it, damn it, damn it!"
Sean listlessly found a bucket of mineral water, washed his feet clean, and then found a new towel to dry them.
Finally, after he was no longer disgusted with himself, he dragged his weak body and cleaned up the bundle of excrement that he had trampled.
"vomit----"
After dry heaving through the last bit of cleaning, Sean sat back on his bed, listening to the radio playing, and asked himself a question in confusion.
"How much time has passed now, damn it, a month? Or two months?"
"Heh, I laugh at Gavin's foolishness, because after broadcasting for so long, they didn't even install a time announcement system during their broadcasts!"
"How many people will gradually forget the pre-apocalyptic calendar? I'm at least unsure how long I'll survive the apocalypse!"
"Their broadcast was so great, they should have announced the date too; that would have been a way to continue civilization—"
At this point, Sean lay on the bed, staring intently at the dark ceiling.
His rapid breathing gradually calmed down, and he continued to mutter to himself.
Even if I am saved one day, will the world outside still be the world I remember?
"Does the sun rise as usual?"
