Chapter 183 The Vanished Field Transport Convoy (10k)
"That's for sure."
Beside William, Old Feng put away his gun and walked towards the terrace, saying to Winnie without turning his head.
"Winnie, you're still young. You've only been practicing with precision rifles for a little over a week. By the time you grow up, Eugene might not even have the strength to be your spotter."
"How is that possible!"
Listening to Lao Feng's words of comfort, Winnie pouted and shook her head.
"Uncle Abraham is over fifty, but he can still pick up a gun and go out to fight. Uncle Eugene won't be that old by then either."
As soon as she finished speaking, Winnie couldn't help but give a worried look and glanced towards the terrace.
It was getting dark, and William didn't see the worry in Winnie's eyes. He assumed she was looking at Old Feng, who was climbing over the balcony and jumping off, so he quickly said something to Winnie.
"Don't jump down! Don't do what he did!"
"What? Jump down?"
Winnie was taken aback and instinctively asked William.
Before William could answer, Winnie saw Old Feng swiftly vault over the terrace and leap from the second floor onto the grass.
Behind Lao Feng, Anthony also jumped down, while the others, after checking the height, followed Thomas back inside, intending to exit the manor through the main gate.
After seeing the men jumping out, Winnie quickly explained to William.
"Ha, is that it? I didn't intend to jump out like them. They were both soldiers, and I don't have their physique."
"I'm just thinking about the people who haven't come back yet, Uncle Eugene, Uncle Martin, and the pilots, they haven't come back yet."
"I know they'll be fine, I'm sure, but I can't help worrying. People who stay at home never truly let go of their concern for their families, do they?"
At this point, Winnie pursed her lips and continued to look at the increasingly gloomy sky in the distance.
Meanwhile, Gavin's helicopter had also stopped. Gavin jumped off the helicopter and went to the edge of the roof with Steve. They jumped from the third-floor roof to the second-floor terrace.
Upon seeing Gavin descend from the sky, Thomas, who was leading people into the manor, quickly came to Gavin's side and whispered to him.
"Sir, we only encountered one zombie attack today, and everyone handled it very well."
"I saw it. Keep going. Take the men and collect the zombie corpses and put them in the truck. We'll take them to the incinerator tomorrow during the day."
As soon as he finished speaking, Gavin walked to the edge of the terrace and hopped onto the grass, where he and Steve started tidying up with Old Feng.
The other men left the manor through the main gate and joined the work of collecting the bodies.
Two people per body; within minutes, more than twenty bodies were piled on the vehicle.
After dealing with the body, Gavin took off his gloves, then shook them a couple of times on the grass before squatting down, frowning and looking into the distance.
It was already completely dark when Gavin and his companion arrived back just as the sun was about to set.
Even so, when I got home, the three groups of people who were still out and about still hadn't returned!
Gavin wasn't particularly worried about the convoy led by Eugene and Martin. After all, they were driving two civilian armored vehicles, and unless they encountered too much trouble, they wouldn't die easily.
Even if they were surrounded by zombies, as long as it wasn't an aggregate attacking them, ordinary zombies wouldn't be able to break through the defenses of their vehicle; at most, they could only trap them in one place.
But Sean's pilot trio—
If their helicopter has an accident, then the trouble will be really big!
Thinking of this, Gavin couldn't help but purse his lips.
Beside him, Old Feng noticed Gavin squatting there, so he moved closer to Gavin, took Gavin's gloves, and said.
"I'm going to take my gloves to be washed in a bit, so you can have yours with me too."
"Thank you very much."
Gavin exchanged a polite remark, then looked at Old Feng squatting beside him. He could tell that Old Feng had something to say to him.
Meeting Gavin's gaze, Old Feng narrowed his eyes and asked softly.
"Boss, are you worried about Eugene and the others, or our Apache?"
"Everyone's worried, it's unavoidable."
Gavin chuckled, then stood up and waved to Old Feng.
"Let's go, let's get ready to eat, just save one portion for them."
"Um.
""
Old Feng nodded, and the two followed the flow of people returning home, arriving back at the manor and going to the restaurant.
Although the absence of returning field crew members cast a shadow over the team's spirits, the recent elimination of over twenty zombies rekindled their enthusiasm, resulting in a fairly pleasant atmosphere for dinner.
After the meal, Gavin rested in the lobby as usual, while Nikita helped clear the dishes and sat down next to him.
She took Gavin's hand, leaned against him, and stretched out her legs to wiggle her toes in white socks, whispering something under her breath.
"Honey, worrying won't help at all."
"But it's understandable to be worried, Nikki, it's almost 6:30 now."
As Gavin answered, he glanced at his watch, then pursed his lips and continued to look at the night illuminated by a few lights.
After a moment of silence, Nikita took a deep breath and then rested her head on Gavin's left shoulder.
"My reason tells me that worrying is pointless, but I can't help but worry, so should we go look for them?"
"Stop fooling around!"
Upon hearing this, Gavin frowned sharply, looked down into Nikita's eyes, and said seriously.
"Don't try to persuade me like that, girl. I'm just worried, after all. I'm a living, breathing person, not a machine. I can't be rational all the time."
"They did get back a bit late, so when they get back I'll make them drink a few bottles."
.
"But apart from that, there's nothing we can do for the time being. If the helicopters break down, it's almost impossible for us to find them before we can make radio contact. That's why I don't like helicopters!"
"As for the convoy, there are eight of them. If even they encounter an accident that could trap them, then having more people might not be of much use!"
So, all we can do is wait!
As soon as he finished speaking, Gavin took a deep breath, then reached out his left hand, put his arm around Nikita's waist, and pulled her closer to him.
Nikita couldn't help but look up at Gavin's defined jawline and say something.
"You're more worried about the helicopter, right? After all, at least we still have the possibility of finding the convoy."
"indeed."
When Nikita asked him a question, Gavin simply nodded.
"I am indeed more worried about helicopters, for the reason you mentioned, that at least we can determine and guess the possible location where the convoy might be stuck based on the roads on the ground."
"But if the helicopters break down, our only way to find them will be to rely on luck!"
Just as Gavin finished speaking, his walkie-talkie suddenly rang.
Flight instructor Sean's voice came through the walkie-talkie, addressing the suddenly excited Gavin.
"Ah, Commander Gavin, this is Sean. I'd like to hear a delightful greeting!"
"Surprise you, Mom! You're back way too late. How much longer until you get home?"
Gavin yelled at Sean, cursing loudly.
Upon hearing Gavin's curses, Sean paused for a moment, then roared back at Gavin with even greater excitement.
"That's right, that's exactly what I wanted. I sensed your concern, and that's enough, haha!"
"But there's absolutely no need to worry. Night flight is a fundamental skill for professional pilots like us. Although radar isn't as reliable as it used to be, the world is at my feet, and even more so in my eyes. No one has the right to make me lose my way, not even God!"
"I live only about 30 kilometers from our farm, and I'll be home in ten minutes at the latest. Did you save some food for me, sir?"
"Screw you, Sean, I only prepared leftover pancakes and cheese for you at lunch. Hurry up and come back."
O
Gavin cursed at Sean one last time, then simply stood up and walked towards the stairs.
Seeing this, Nikita followed Gavin, and the two climbed onto the roof one after the other, then pushed open the door to the stairwell and went out.
Just as the two reached the rooftop, they saw two other figures lingering near the helicopter not far away.
The two figures were entangled together, and at the same time, faint sounds of intimacy could be heard.
"Wow, look what we've found! We've found a joyful nightingale in the apocalypse!"
Nikita couldn't help but smile, and jokingly muttered something under her breath.
Gavin chuckled along with Nikita, then coughed twice to remind the couple who were having fun to be aware of their arrival.
"Ahem!"
Gavin's intensified cough interrupted the two people's entanglement in the distance. Under the moonlight, the two awkwardly separated and then adjusted their trousers and skirts.
Then, the two walked towards Gavin side by side, and Gavin finally saw their faces.
The blacksmith Manus awkwardly raised his hand and rubbed his stomach, looking helpless as he spoke to Gavin.
"Boss, sorry, we two—we—uh—"
"Hey!"
Hearing Manus's halting reply, Susan snorted in dissatisfaction; she particularly disliked this seemingly weak and timid response.
So Susan simply picked up where Manus left off and spoke to Gavin.
"Boss, Manus and I didn't do anything wrong, did we? It's our break time anyway, we just found a quiet corner to have a little romance~"
As soon as she finished speaking, Susan leaned closer to Gavin, eagerly trying to hug his arm.
Nikita calmly accepted Susan's enthusiasm and took Susan's hand.
Seeing this, Susan pursed her lips helplessly and gave Gavin a meaningful look.
Gavin smacked his lips twice at Susan and Manus and laughed.
"Tsk tsk, I didn't mean to punish you. It really is rest time now, isn't it?"
"And you guys picked a great spot. Look, Nikki and I wanted to go to this place too. You guys have great taste, guys."
"But be careful not to catch a cold. Although the weather is much warmer than a few days ago, it's still not warm enough for us to expose our skin freely."
As soon as he finished speaking, Gavin waved to Manus and the other man, who immediately turned and left.
After the two disappeared into the stairwell, Nikita took a deep breath and then grabbed Gavin's hand and said...
"Gavin, I thought Manus would be more worried about Diana. Diana likes Manus a lot, doesn't she? Besides, Diana is still with the team and hasn't come back yet!"
"Yes, that's what I thought too, but Manus's mindset is obviously better than mine. I should learn from him in that respect, because I lost my composure this time."
Gavin responded, then put his arm around Nikita and sat on the edge of the rooftop, dangling his legs down, gazing at the distant night sky in a daze.
Since the apocalypse began, it has been well past mid-February. The temperature in Texas is much better now than it was then, with nighttime temperatures reaching close to eight degrees Celsius, and daytime and afternoon temperatures even higher.
The two sat on the rooftop and talked about their worries, then watched as the indicator lights of a helicopter appeared in the distance.
The helicopter drew closer and closer, eventually landing about eighty meters behind Gavin.
After the propellers came to a complete stop, Sean, beaming, led Nicholas and Paul toward Gavin.
From a distance, Sean called out to Gavin.
"Hey boss, did you miss me? I went on a huge trek today!"
"At Livingston Lake, I did a series of recordings, and then the three of us went to Shepard Base to see our old buddies."
"Well, the base is still the same as before because it's too far from Richard Town. My comrades in their pajamas are still like a bunch of idiots, either wandering around or hiding near the base."
"As for the helicopters we've got our eye on, especially the Black Hawk and Chinook, they're parked perfectly fine at the airport. However, there are barracks nearby, so if we want to get them, we'll probably have to lure all the hunters away from the base and then have a good fight with the remaining garrison!"
"But we'll definitely be fine. We outnumber them, right? That bastard Eugene will love this job, haha~"
At this point, Sean waved to Nicholas and Paul, telling them to go downstairs and find something to eat.
He then unceremoniously sat down next to Gavin, completely disregarding the fact that Gavin and Nikita were sitting together, and took over the seat to Gavin's right.
Gavin's expression darkened further as he listened to Sean's words.
"Yeah, that bastard Eugene would love war."
Gavin repeated himself, then looked up at the distant darkness, his gaze causing Sean, who had been in a good mood, to frown.
"Boss!"
Sean asked.
"What happened at home? You don't look happy. I thought Black Hawk and Chinook would make you jump for joy, but even if they weren't that dramatic, you shouldn't be sighing!"
"Hmm, do I look that bad? I thought you'd take longer to notice."
Gavin responded with a curt reply.
Hearing Gavin's words, Sean pursed his lips and smiled.
"Perhaps I'm more perceptive than most people; I have eagle eyes, sir. So, what exactly happened?"
"It's nothing, it's just that Eugene and Martin's convoy hasn't returned yet."
As Gavin answered, he glanced at his watch.
It's almost 7 p.m.!
But there's still no news from the team!
Upon hearing Gavin's words, Sean's expression froze, and then he fell silent.
After a few seconds of silence, Sean raised his head again and whispered to Gavin.
"Sir, they shouldn't have gone too far. I can go out and look for them again."
"Quiet, and calm!"
Gavin immediately interrupted Sean and continued speaking to him.
"Martin and Eugene know the roads around here very well. They won't get into big trouble easily. Maybe they'll just be like me the other day, unable to get back in time. Let's not let their situation throw us off balance."
"Your helicopter just got home, and you've been flying all day. You need to rest, at least get some sleep!"
"If Eugene and Martin's team hasn't returned by 8 AM tomorrow, then your job tomorrow will only be finding the team. You need to be well-rested and prepared!"
"So, go eat, eat your fill, sleep a little longer, and while you're at it, offer a prayer for our comrades!"
""
As soon as he finished speaking, Gavin patted Sean on the shoulder.
Sean took a deep breath and nodded heavily to Gavin.
As Sean nodded, the door to the stairwell was pushed open again in the distance behind the three of them.
Hearing the door open, Gavin turned around and glanced back. He was in the shadows, while the stairwell was under the lights, so he instantly recognized the woman coming upstairs.
It's Adele Suarez, the woman who was harmed by the Holy Fire cultists!
Upon seeing her face clearly, Gavin unconsciously stood up and led Nikita and Sean back to the stairwell.
Seeing that Gavin had others with him, Adele, who had come up to the rooftop, nervously licked her lips, unsure of what to say.
It wasn't until the four of them left the rooftop together and returned to the third-floor corridor that this continued.
Adele finally couldn't help but say to Gavin.
"Boss, can I—can I go out for a bit? You know, Barn—I mean—Barn, like everyone else on the field team, hasn't come back yet, and I'm a little worried!"
At this point, Adele looked at Gavin with concern.
After a brief moment of stiffness, Gavin reached out and grabbed Adele's shoulder, speaking softly.
"I understand your concerns, and I'm just as worried as you are, believe me."
"But they were only an hour late, and it was already dark. The fact that the convoy hasn't returned yet only shows that the surrounding environment after the zombie migration is more troublesome than we thought!"
The text in question was meant to say something more dangerous, but he changed the word before he could finish.
It was changed to the word "trouble," which Adele would find more acceptable.
Gavin's words made Adele tremble. Then Adele grabbed Gavin's hand and said to him, her voice trembling slightly.
"But boss, I—I'm so worried about him, I—"
"I know, Adele, but now is not the time. Even if we're going to search for them, I'll be the one leading the search, understand? So whatever you do, keep your hearts to yourself and wait for my decision!"
At this point, Gavin patted Adele's shoulder heavily, trying to calm the woman down.
Adele swallowed hard, then lowered her head nervously and nodded uneasily to Gavin.
Seeing Adele's uneasy expression, Gavin remained silent for a moment, then turned around and continued to the second-floor guard post.
Noticing Gavin's approach, Madison glanced at Adele behind Gavin before silently returning to his post.
Gavin then came to his side and gestured for Adele and the others to leave first.
After the others left, Gavin finally leaned against the glass and let out a long sigh.
Hearing Gavin's sigh, Madison asked in a low voice.
"Boss, when are you planning to go find them? You know they haven't come back yet, right?"
"I know. By 10 o'clock at the latest, I will lead the team to search for their trail. We will try our best to search along the route and get in touch with them by contacting their walkie-talkies, which means we need to get within 25 to 30 kilometers of them!"
"If I don't find anything tonight, then tomorrow morning, Steve, Old Feng, and Sean will all have to take a helicopter with people to search the surrounding area and try to pinpoint the convoy's location!"
"The convoy couldn't have vanished into thin air. Even if they encountered danger, the armored vehicles should have been able to protect them. They must just be trapped somewhere!"
At this point, Gavin fell silent again.
Madison then picked up a bottle of Coke and handed it to Gavin.
Gavin took the Coke, took a sip, and then put it on the guard's table, losing all interest in drinking any more beverages.
Those were eight highly skilled explorers; their importance to the camp is self-evident.
In any case, Gavin could not let them disappear into thin air.
At the very least—we need to see the person alive or dead!
With these thoughts in mind, Gavin went to the lobby, suppressed his unease, and silently waited for time to pass, and even more so for the convoy to return.
The time came to around 8:40 pm.
Most of the members have already gathered at the gym to train.
But Gavin never saw the team return.
At the same time, a somber atmosphere settled over the camp.
Even the guys working out at the gym mostly looked distracted.
Gavin could see people whispering amongst themselves, talking uneasily about something, and even their workouts became mostly perfunctory.
Seeing this, Gavin shook his head and then went to Steve's side.
"Steve, pack your gear, let's get ready to take off the helicopter."
"receive!"
Upon receiving the order, Steve nodded excitedly.
He had been waiting for this order for far too long.
He understood that Gavin couldn't possibly send people out to search immediately after the field convoy returned late.
That would be too impulsive. What if the convoy is just late? What if they come back on their own a little while later?
But the longer the convoy was allowed to disappear, the more oppressive the atmosphere became in the camp, and the more worried everyone in the camp became!
Adele is just one of them. You know, in the current camp, every field agent has their own friends and people who care about them!
Just by glancing around the gym, Gavin saw far more than six or seven tense faces.
Horst was worried about Adriana, and although Abel and Arturo didn't say it, Gavin guessed they were also anxious about her.
Anthony, on the other hand, was worried about Father Hogan; the two of them had been working together for a while before arriving at the camp.
Adele longs for Scarface Barn; the love between these two star-crossed lovers has long been forged into an unbreakable bond during the apocalypse.
Meanwhile, the Baron's old buddies were worried about Abraham and Diana's disappearance, and they were gathered in small groups, talking nervously about something.
Eugene and Martin, needless to say, have many people who care about them, including Winnie and Doris.
Even Tara, who had just joined the camp and was even more formidable than Old Mike, had two kids and an asthmatic girl worrying about her.
It is conceivable that if all of these field agents were to go missing, the blow to the camp would be devastating!
The reason why Camp Gavin was able to build such a non-wasteland living environment and interpersonal relationships in the apocalypse is because Gavin used caution to overcome all the troubles he had encountered in the past to the greatest extent.
He brought the overall morale of the camp to its highest possible level!
As for now, Gavin can accept the occasional loss of one or two field crew members, and he is prepared to say goodbye to his colleagues every day.
But eight people —
Good heavens, if the camp really loses eight guys at once—
Even Gavin would be affected!
In any case, he must respond to the issue of the missing field agents in a manner befitting a leader!
Regardless of how many of the eight missing persons are still alive, or even if they are all dead, Gavin must take action!
Only in this way could he stabilize the morale of the entire camp!
Thinking of this, Gavin snorted fiercely through his nose and then went back to Old Feng's side.
Seeing Gavin approach, without Gavin needing to say anything, Lao Feng's wife, Xiao Cao, put on a hesitant expression.
But Gavin ignored Xiao Cao's worried expression and spoke to Lao Feng on his own.
"Old Feng, pack your gear, you're coming with me in a bit."
"Okay, boss, we can't just let Eugene and the others disappear without a trace, right?"
Old Feng added a comment, and casually gave Gavin a thumbs up.
Gavin nodded, then turned and walked towards Anthony.
Watching Gavin's retreating figure, Xiao Cao anxiously reached out and grabbed Lao Feng's wrist, whispering something to him.
"Old Feng, do we really have to keep exploring? We're already farming, but if we continue like this, won't you all encounter danger? What if one day you don't come back?"
"Don't think like that, honey."
Listening to Xiao Cao's words, Lao Feng gently patted his wife's hand and continued thoughtfully.
"If there are no explorers, or even no office staff at all, and we no longer venture too far from the manor to patrol, then..."
"A single large-scale zombie migration could bring about our annihilation!"
"Moreover, whether it's the remnants of civilization, essential supplies, or our escape route, we can only obtain those by venturing out."
"Exploration is essential for survival, honey. The apocalypse won't adapt to us; we must proactively adapt to it!"
"And the rule of the apocalypse is that when it's time to pay the price, someone has to die!"
At this point, Old Feng quietly reached out and patted Little Cao's butt.
"Alright, don't worry about it. I'll be right back."
"Then be careful!"
Xiao Cao emphasized this point, and then playfully patted Lao Feng's butt. Lao Feng chuckled and left the gym to pack up.
At the same time, Gavin also contacted Anthony and Nikita separately.
He planned to take six people with him. Two would be in the helicopter, searching for signs of light from above, while the other four would travel in a car, ensuring that every window of the car was under someone's watch.
So now we only need one more person.
Gavin then turned his gaze to a woman on a treadmill thirty meters away.
Gavin walked over to her, stood beside her, and said something to her.
"Wang Ling, come with me."
"Hmm? Where to? At this time?"
Wang Ling was startled by Gavin's words, and then instinctively swallowed.
Gavin nodded and said softly.
"The camp convoy was three hours late and hadn't returned, so we had to take a look along the routes they might have taken during the day."
"Okay, I'll go get ready. Shall we meet in the lobby?"
Wang Ling hesitated before answering, then pursed her lips nervously.
She was actually afraid of the late night, and even more afraid of the trouble of leaving an entire convoy of cars stranded outside.
But she didn't feel she had the right to refuse.
Look around at the guys, especially the two girls with her and the patient.
Although Wang Ling felt that even if she refused Gavin's invitation, Gavin probably wouldn't do anything to them.
But in any case, Wang Ling did not want to try this.
Moreover, when she chatted with Thomas that afternoon, she specifically chose the fieldwork direction.
The logistics staff have endless work to do, and the internal affairs staff have endless patrols to complete.
Explorers, of course, also face endless dangers and the inevitable loss of their lives.
That's the fate of field workers!
By this time, Gavin had gathered most of the men and returned to the lobby to wait for the assembly.
But during the assembly, Thomas also left the gym and came to the middle of the lobby.
Seeing Gavin and Nikita standing there, Thomas leaned closer and whispered to Gavin.
"Master, isn't it a bit too early to set off to find them now? I think it wouldn't make a difference if we set off tomorrow morning."
"It will be safer for me to leave tomorrow morning, but for the guys at the camp, they're going to have a restless night."
Gavin immediately said to Thomas.
"Besides, I need to let everyone see my actions, and my choices and style will be the main style of the camp in the future. I like the camp as it is now, what about you?"
At this point, Gavin patted Thomas on the shoulder.
"Keep an eye on the house. If anything happens, talk to Madison. Go on."
"I understand. I'll arrange night patrols, don't worry."
Thomas nodded and turned to leave.
Gavin and his group gradually regrouped and left the manor one after another.
While helicopters can easily get lost at night, with cars on the ground as landmarks, getting lost becomes a joke; they're unlikely to lose track of the vehicles.
Meanwhile, in Gavin's Mammoth, Lao Feng sat in the passenger seat as usual, while Anthony and Wang Ling sat in the back.
Nikita and Steve are in the helicopter.
Before Gavin and his group left the manor.
More precisely, it was on that afternoon, before Gavin and his team knew what had happened on the field, before the sun had even set.
Directly in front of the Indian Reservation jail, Eugene stopped the car and looked at his watch.
Behind their car, Martin stopped and observed for a moment, then got out of his car and knocked twice on Eugene's car window.
"Eugene."
Martin said softly.
"Our trip went pretty smoothly, haha, having more people is definitely a good thing. I thought we wouldn't be able to see the prison until at least tomorrow!"
"How the hell could that be? You think I'm here to hold you back? I'm the God of War for the Apocalypse, buddy! This is the kind of progress I'm supposed to make!"
Eugene responded with a loud curse, then reached out of the car window and pointed to the prison gate ahead.
"Martin, get back in the fucking car, I'm going to fire a few shots to test the waters of this prison."
"If this place hasn't been visited by the great zombie migration, then open the prison gates and let us drive the car in and move all the supplies into the prison."
"It's already four in the morning, damn it! Get the goods unloaded in a proper warehouse as soon as possible; I'm going to have a foot bath with Old Bert tonight!"
After saying that, Eugene stuck his pistol out of the car and fired two shots into the sky.
He then turned to Barn, Adriana, and Father Hogan in the car and spoke.
"Damn, the sound of a python's gunshot is so crisp. If I were the hunter, I'd run towards the sound immediately!"
"Oh right, you're right. So, is prison safe or not?"
Adriana rolled her eyes at Eugene while smoking, then flicked the ash out the car window.
She's not exactly a clean person; if she weren't in a luxury car, her feet would be covered in cigarette butts.
Father Hogan, standing next to Adriana, choked on the smoke and shook his head helplessly.
"Adriana, you smoked a total of eight cigarettes this afternoon. I have to tell you, that's a bit too much. Even a superhero would die of lung cancer if he kept smoking like that."
"Should I fucking thank you for reminding me, Pastor? I'd be so happy to die of cancer, because I thought I'd die from some kind of disease!"
Adriana gave the priest the middle finger.
Meanwhile, in the car behind.
After the gunshots rang out, Martin sat back in the passenger seat, puffing out a cigarette lazily.
"Eugene, that bastard."
He muttered a curse under his breath, then couldn't help but chuckle softly.
Noticing Martin's smile, Aunt Tara split her thick lips and patted Martin on the shoulder with a big laugh.
"Hey Martin, you're laughing like a gay guy who's about to get AIDS!"
"Shut your mouth, Brother Ni, don't think I won't scold you just because you're a woman!"
Martin spat out the car window and said something harsh to Tara.
But Tara didn't care about Martin's displeasure, and instead turned to Abraham and Diana in the car and spoke.
"Did you hear that? This guy's a bit racist, but unfortunately I can't find anywhere to file a complaint against him."
"Speaking of which, Martin, haven't you ever tried being with a Black woman? Doesn't that mean you're missing out on a whole new life experience?"
"Stop messing around, I don't want that kind of life experience. I'd rather sleep with a white girl who has a disease, so you'll never get me, I swear!"
Martin growled at Tara, then turned to look around.
Three minutes had passed since the gunshots rang out, and he had finished his cigarette, but no zombies had yet appeared in his field of vision.
After confirming that the view was safe, Martin took out his walkie-talkie and spoke to Eugene.
"Eugene, it's time to act. The boss wants us to be cautious, not to waste time in fear."
"Your mother's the coward, your whole family's cowards, Martin, let's go!"
Eugene responded with a string of curses as he drove into the prison. The two cars bypassed the area where prisoners were allowed to exercise and arrived at the most heavily guarded cell.
They did not intend to set up the supply point in the guards' building where the warden lived, because the prisoners' living area was obviously safer than the guards' living environment.
The defenses that were once set up to prevent prisoners from escaping have now all become defenses against zombies. Just looking at the tight cells and sturdy walls makes them feel safe.
After choosing a location, the group cautiously searched the prison to confirm that it had indeed not been visited by the migrating zombie horde.
The way they slaughtered everyone here is what makes this place look like now.
Seeing this, Eugene clapped his hands while smoking a cigar.
"Okay, guys, the prison is safe enough for us to have a big party. Let's unload all the supplies and take them to the kitchen warehouse in the prison area."
"It's 4:20 now. We need to hurry. After we get the supplies, we also need to move as many corpses as possible out of the prison, so they don't turn our escape route into a fucking cesspool!"
"Adriana, you're the weakest of all the fuck. Go find a high vantage point to stand guard, or we'll be working while zombies sneak up to the prison walls."
"Hurry up! We have to leave the prison and get home by 5:10 at the latest, unless you all want a cold dinner. So get moving!!!"
Eugene gave his orders, grumbling, and the group of eight immediately began to move out.
First, they delivered the food and water they had brought from home to the warehouse, and then they cleaned up the corpses in the prison area.
The task wasn't finished until 5:10 p.m., as there were quite a few corpses in the prison area, a large portion of which were already rotten, brittle, and soft, requiring shovels to collect them.
So, around 5:10 p.m., Eugene had to stop everyone's actions and drive away from the prison with his men.
Looking at the road home, Eugene squinted wearily.
The longer the apocalypse lasts, the more exhaustion accumulates in people, both mentally and physically.
Just as Eugene was feeling exhausted, Martin spoke into the walkie-talkie in the back car.
"Eugene, turn left at the fork in the road ahead. We're going back the way we came. Don't fucking take the wrong road!"
"Are you kidding me? How could I possibly take the wrong turn? Turn left and take the middle road at the three-way intersection. I've driven this road countless times. Do you think I'd get lost?"
Eugene responded with a smile, then turned left and continued driving for about eighteen minutes.
But just as the sun was beginning to set, at about 5:32 PM...
Eugene's car suddenly began to slow down, and his previously sleepy eyes now revealed a ferocious, hawk-like look!
Meanwhile, in Eugene's passenger seat, Father Hogan abruptly raised his binoculars, staring in disbelief at the road ahead.
In his eyes, the road about 1.2 kilometers ahead was densely covered with traces of zombies!
"What the hell is that?!"
In the back seat, Barn growled, opened the car window in disbelief, and stuck his head out to look into the distance.
Eugene swallowed hard, turned on the intercom, and cursed at Martin.
"Fuck you, Martin! Did I just take the wrong turn? Why didn't you tell me?!"
"What? You didn't take the wrong road? I checked it myself, this is the road we came from."
Martin looked at the car in front with amusement and then involuntarily began to slow down.
As Martin parked his car behind Eugene's, he picked up his binoculars and looked ahead suspiciously.
A moment later, Martin couldn't help but curse.
"Shit, what the hell is going on? There weren't this many zombies when we arrived, where did they come from?!"
