Apocalyptic Hoarding Diary

Chapter 339 Water Tickets

Chapter 339 Water Tickets

Some people in the crowd breathed a sigh of relief. Being able to get a month's worth of water tickets in advance meant they wouldn't have to worry about drinking water for the next month. Although they didn't know how they would get through the rest of the month, at least they had gotten through this hurdle.

The horn continued, "If you have a car, you can rent it to the military based on its use. We promise to provide a rental fee of 5 water tickets per month. As this is a water source area, ordinary people are not allowed to stay here. Everyone must depart for Lintong City by 10 p.m. tonight at the latest."

Xu Xiaoyan glanced at her phone; it was a little past 4 p.m., meaning there were less than 6 hours left.

"You can drive there yourself, or you can take a military vehicle for free. It's up to you." After saying this, the man paused for a few seconds, then raised his voice, "Now, everyone, please register your personal information on the first platform and pre-collect one month's worth of water tickets."

He pointed to the left and said, "The registration desk is over there. Line up and come one by one."

He then pointed to the right and said, "If you want to rent a vehicle to the military, go to that table over there to register."

Finally, he emphasized, "If you register after the deadline, you will automatically forfeit your water ticket benefits. Please hurry up and register."

The speaker finished speaking and then the loudspeaker was turned off.

The crowd surged instantly, with some running to the left to get in line and register earlier.

Someone squeezed to the right to inquire about car rentals.

Some people have already started using their phones; there's actually a signal here? But it doesn't seem to make much difference, because you can't get through at all.

Xu Xiaoyan was pushed back a few steps and simply retreated behind a stalactite. She leaned against the thick stone pillar, watching the people rushing to the registration desk, her mind racing with calculations.

First, you need to register and get your water ticket; this is mandatory.

Although she didn't know the value of a month's worth of water tickets, nor did she know the situation in Lintong City, something she could actually hold in her hands was definitely better than an empty promise. Since the military had said they would issue them, she would definitely go and collect them.

She cannot be involved in vehicle rental matters!

Although both cars are in the space, if someone notices something amiss when you retrieve or use them, it will be a serious matter; you might even be arrested and investigated.

Niu Niu also has her own space, but her situation is completely different from mine. She is only 3 years old and at an age where she doesn't remember things. As long as the military has any sense, they will protect her well. After all, the child they raised will eventually be close to them.

She's different. She's an adult, and she has her own ideas and opinions. She's too uncontrollable, and the higher-ups don't like people who can't be controlled.

Xu Xiaoyan herself was unwilling to put her own safety above the conscience of others. If she was lucky, she might encounter a friendly superior who would treat her well; if she was unlucky, she might not even know how she died. It was pointless, and she didn't want to take that risk.

As for how to get to Lintong City, of course, take a military vehicle! It's free, convenient, you don't have to drive yourself, you don't have to worry about fuel and electricity, you don't have to worry about being targeted, you can blend into the crowd, follow the main group, and be the least conspicuous.

After thinking it through, she stepped out from behind the stalactite and walked towards the crowd on the left.

There were four long, winding lines in front of the registration desk. She found a line that looked a little shorter and stood at the very back.

Ahead was a dense, dark mass of people. Some carried huge bags, taller than themselves; some carried crying babies; some were supporting elderly people, who would walk a few steps and then rest. Everyone was moving forward.

She stood in the line, looking around listlessly.

The cave was still dark, but the soldiers set up several searchlights, their white beams shining on the registration area, making it hard to see.

Ahead of her was a middle-aged woman with a boy of about seven or eight years old. The boy was probably getting impatient, and kept asking, "Mommy, how much longer?" "Mommy, can we go back first?" "Mommy, I'm thirsty," the woman coaxed softly, but her voice also revealed her exhaustion.

Xu Xiaoyan glanced at it and then looked away.

After waiting for about an hour, we were finally almost there.

She stood on tiptoe to look ahead. There were still more than a dozen people in front of her. There were two laptops on the registration desk. One was responsible for entering personal information, and the other was responsible for distributing water tickets. Two young men in military uniforms sat behind the computers, typing rapidly on the keyboards.

When it was the woman's turn, she gave her name and identification information. The computer operator typed away for a while and then handed her a piece of paper.

The woman took the paper and walked to the computer next to her. Another data entry clerk glanced at it, took out a stack of colorful pieces of paper from a drawer, counted them, and handed them to her.

Xu Xiaoyan squinted, trying to see what the water ticket looked like. It was colorful and about the size of a palm, with words printed on it that she couldn't make out.

The woman took the water ticket, carefully stuffed it into her inner pocket, then took the child's hand and left.

Finally, it was her turn. She walked to the first table and gave her name and identification information.

The data entry clerk was a young male soldier, looking a little tired, but his movements were swift and efficient.

He typed a few keys, stared at the screen for a few seconds, and then asked, "Which server in the dungeon was I in before?"

"Area B".

He nodded, knocked a few more times, and then handed her a piece of paper. "Go over there and get your water ticket."

She took the paper and walked to the table next to her.

The woman on the other end took the paper, glanced at it, and then took out a stack of water tickets from her drawer and handed them to her, along with a folded piece of paper.

"Here's your water ticket, and here's a simple map of Lintong City and some important notes. Keep it safe and don't lose it."

Xu Xiaoyan took the water tickets and map, glanced down at them. The water tickets were colorful, each printed with "5L", a number and a stamp, and felt a bit rough to the touch.

She looked around and saw that almost everyone had prepaid for a month's worth of water tickets. It made sense; it's always better to have something in hand than to have it in your own.

Who knows what will happen in the future? What if the policy changes tomorrow? What if the military goes back on its word? What if something unexpected happens? Having something in hand is better than empty promises.

She folded the water ticket and map, stuffed them into her inner pocket, and then turned and left.

Xu Xiaoyan quickly returned to her lodgings and began tidying up her things. She stood in front of the small world formed by the stalactites and took one last look at this place that had briefly belonged to her.

She bent down to tie the tent to the side of her backpack, tightened the straps, and then walked towards the cave exit.

The further you go, the higher the temperature gets. At first, it's just a slight warmth, but by the time you're halfway there, you can feel a sticky feeling on your skin, as if you're covered in a thin layer of sweat.

As we approached the cave entrance, the heat hit us like a wave, making it hard to breathe.

She took out her phone and glanced at the time—5:30 p.m.
