Chapter 34 Placental Human Evolution Version
Chapter 34 Placental Human Evolution Version
The moment the door opened, they saw what was inside.
Not a placental person.
Or rather, not the placental people they had seen before, but a new kind of people.
If the placental humans they had seen before were merely undeveloped, experimental prototypes, then the placental humans before them were clearly much more mature.
Perhaps it can be called the complete form.
It had become almost indistinguishable from a human form. Hearing the door open, the placental person turned around. The face that had once been on the patient's head looked at the people who had opened the door with a deep, unsettling gaze.
The baby-like limbs that were originally on his body have disappeared without a trace, or rather, they have been replaced by adult limbs.
It was obvious that the limbs of the placental person did not belong to the same person. Although the person was naked, Jiang Xingni's gaze swept over them and he could see the differences in the direction of the bones and muscles.
Jiang Xingni could tell that the left arm belonged to a man, who was probably not very tall, while the right arm belonged to a woman.
As for the two legs, both are female, one is taller than the other, and even the height of the placental person is not even on both sides.
The head nurse paused for a moment, but quickly regained her composure.
But even a brief pause was enough for the non-human monster in front of it to catch a smile slowly appear on its face—whether it should be called male or female, or simply "it"—it was hard to tell.
Jiang Xingni became alert the moment she opened the door. She was the fastest of the three, and without hesitation, she pulled Pei Zhaoye behind her—a small action that was keenly noticed by the head nurse on the other side.
Then she took out a pair of throwing knives from her pocket, which she had somehow managed to steal, and threw them toward the placental human evolution.
The movement was so fast that Pei Zhaoye and the head nurse could barely catch a glimpse of it out of the corner of their eyes. The sunlight reflecting off the blade was dazzling, and before they could even see its exact size, the blade had already been thrown as a weapon.
Jiang Xingni certainly wasn't aiming for those blades to cause much damage to the monster in front of him.
Just as the monster chose to dodge the attack, Jiang Xingni took a step back and then slammed the door shut.
"So, this is the evolved version of those placental people from before?" Jiang Xingni nodded silently as he listened to Pei Zhaoye's question.
The girl's tone was calm and collected: "Most likely."
"Moreover, the head nurse once said that these ideas may have been inspired by the story of Zheng Tingfeng breaking out of the cocoon and becoming a butterfly."
Emerging from the cocoon to become a butterfly.
It absorbs its limbs and parts inside the cocoon, then grows into a butterfly and emerges from the cocoon.
If Zheng Tingfeng was influenced by this story, then the operating rules of this strange phenomenon are quite obvious.
Those people, or rather, people like Jiang Xingni, including Jiang Xingni and his group, were all prey of these placental people.
Placental people take away the limbs of ordinary people by eating them—there may be other ways, but nine times out of ten it is through eating.
Perhaps there are others, after all, this is a "butterfly".
Jiang Xingni was even more certain that Pei Zhaoye and the head nurse had also thought of this, but none of them explicitly stated it.
If the placental human feeds on ordinary people, then where did all the ordinary people in the house go?
Naturally, it was consumed by the placenta.
They were a step too late.
Jiang Xingni didn't know much about the patients placed in the special hospital, but the head nurse was different.
She had spent quite some time with them. Although the deaths of superhumans were common, it was unusual to be attacked so suddenly and without warning, within the jurisdiction of the Bureau of Paranormal Affairs.
Many people have already been injured or killed.
Jiang Xingni could understand what it felt like to witness a tragedy unfold before your eyes, yet be powerless to stop it.
The head nurse was stunned for a moment when she saw the face of the placenta-man. Although the time was short, Jiang Xingni was sure that what she saw was not an illusion.
The head nurse didn't remain silent for long. She stretched out her hand, blocking the way, and led Jiang Xingni and Pei Zhaoye back a few steps, further and further away from the room.
In that instant, the room door was suddenly kicked open, and Jiang Xingni could clearly see the difference in the placental person in front of him.
Unlike those babies whose outer layer of skin encases trembling flesh, which can be easily separated by a light slit of a knife tip.
She saw the blue veins under the skin, the muscles bulging from exertion, and finally the sound of blood flowing regularly.
This is not just a layer of flesh and blood, Jiang Xing thought to himself. This is not just flesh and blood under the skin. In a sense, they are already infinitely close to humans—through the method of eating humans.
"I'll handle it," Jiang Xingni said almost without hesitation, then pointed to the open door of the house and said quickly to Pei Zhaoye on the other side, "You and the head nurse go in and see if there are any survivors inside."
Upon hearing this, the head nurse frowned slightly. Just as she was about to refute Jiang Xingni's decision, Pei Zhaoye stopped her.
"Trust the stars." Pei Zhaoye forced a smile, then stared intently at Jiang Xingni and the placental person facing off on the other side. "Besides, if there are patients inside, the room will need you even more."
No matter how much the head nurse wanted to argue that a child shouldn't be allowed to clear the way for them, she had to admit that what Pei Zhaoye said was indeed the truth.
What if not everyone in the house is dead? What if there are other survivors in the house?
Jiang Xingni is now facing away from the two of them, making a gesture with his hands behind his back.
Before the head nurse could say more, Pei Zhaoye grabbed her and dragged her into the house.
Jiang Xingni and the Placenta Man were left in the wilderness.
In Jiang Xingni's vision, the golden specks of light, just as she had expected, outlined potential weaknesses on the placental person's body.
The monotonous background and blank line drawing actually allowed Jiang Xingni to focus her attention more on the placenta person, eliminating distractions from other scenes.
"How convenient." The girl gripped the knife in her arms with her other hand. "Now, let's see who can beat whom?"
She looked at the person in front of her without fear, and muttered to herself in a low voice that only the system could hear.
"Are you talking to me?" the system asked, puzzled.
Jiang Xingni: ...
"Shut up," the girl said. "I was clearly speaking to my three-dimensional readers."
