Chapter 18 You're Awake
Chapter 18 You're Awake
"Jiang Xingni," Xiao Jiming introduced briefly.
But apart from his name, Xiao Jiming opened his mouth and realized that he knew nothing about himself except for his name.
The young man, who always had a smile on his face, silently turned around and glared at Jiang Xing.
Jiang Xingni, who was inexplicably glared at, thought: ? What's wrong with him?
"She said her special ability is the ability to see reality," Pei Zhaoye added, picking up where Xiao Jiming left off.
Song Juexiao nodded and gestured with his hands for a while, probably explaining to the visitor.
Jiang Xingni carefully examined the newcomer before realizing where the sense of familiarity with him came from—this was the person Jiang Xingni had dealt with when he reported him that afternoon.
The middle-aged man nodded to Jiang Xingni and briefly introduced himself: "Lin Hongguang, in charge of their logistical support."
Without much small talk, his face was solemn: "Have you dealt with it? The strange creature in this village?"
"There have been unusual phenomena in the city, and based on our assessment, they are related to this strange object."
Abnormal phenomena related to ghosts and monsters.
Jiang Xing raised an eyebrow, somewhat suspecting that it was the one she had reported, but she said nothing, pretending that she knew nothing, and stood at the back.
Xiao Jiming shook his head: "It's not resolved. The blank book has disappeared—until it's resolved, shouldn't the Bureau of Paranormal Phenomena give us some compensation?"
When the boy mentioned compensation, a slight smile curved his lips, and his eyes narrowed slightly: "Mr. Lin, after all, we are a group of underage students. We originally thought we were dealing with a Class C anomaly, but we ended up getting caught up in a Class B mystery. I think..."
Lin Hongguang was about to say something when he was interrupted by Xiao Jiming. He silently wiped his sweat—he didn't know if it was because he had rushed over too quickly or because of Xiao Jiming's question.
"I'll handle it." Lin Hongguang always knew these kids weren't easy to fool. "But right now, the more important thing is those in the city who are still affected by the supernatural."
Xiao Jiming didn't say whether he agreed or not, but raised an eyebrow and didn't bring up the matter again.
Human life is paramount, but that doesn't mean this matter is over.
Xiao Jiming briefly introduced what they had discovered in Nanshan Village.
"It all really started here. The villagers were bewitched by the monsters and killed each other. The dead were made into shadow puppets and controlled by those children." Xiao Jiming stepped aside and pointed to the children behind him who were still unconscious due to the shockwave. "The shadow puppets are the monsters in the Ghost Realm. They have no weaknesses and cannot attack in the dark."
"We destroyed the original shadow puppet, but failed in our attempt to destroy the monster, allowing it to escape and disappear without a trace."
In just a few simple words, Xiao Jiming summarized his experience that night.
Just as Xiao Jiming, as the protagonist, was interacting with the officials of the Strange Phenomena Society, Jiang Xingni was nudged in the elbow by Pei Zhaoye next to him.
Jiang Xingni leaned closer, puzzled, and heard Pei Zhaoye whisper in her ear, "Do you know where that wordless book is now?"
Jiang Xingni turned his head and looked Pei Zhaoye up and down.
Pei Zhaoye: "...What kind of expression is that?"
"A shocked expression," Jiang Xingni replied casually. "Why do you think I would know something like this?"
Although she really wanted to create an omniscient character, unfortunately, Jiang Xingni is clearly not omniscient right now.
Even if Jiang Xingni could deduce from the golden track that the wordless book had successfully escaped, he still wouldn't be able to find out the book's exact location using that clue.
Pei Zhaoye: "Didn't you say you could see the truth of the world?"
He raised an eyebrow and asked in an almost provocative manner.
Jiang Xingni ignored his provocation, her tone calm, a familiar faint smile still playing on her lips: "I can see the truth, but that doesn't mean I'm omniscient."
"Besides..." Jiang Xingni raised his eyes and looked ahead. Xiao Jiming and Lin Hongguang were still negotiating, but Jiang Xingni could hear snippets of their conversation. "Whether you will be allowed to participate in this mission is still unknown."
Pei Zhaoye:?
As soon as he finished speaking, Xiao Jiming turned around and walked over. His smile had vanished, and he pursed his lips, gesturing for the others to get into the car.
Lin Hongguang naturally stayed in the village to handle the aftermath for these children. Although they were indeed influenced by the wordless book, it did not mean that they were entirely innocent.
Jiang Xingni naturally followed behind the main group and got into the car driven by Lin Hongguang.
The village was quite remote, and it would take a long time to get back by taxi. Jiang Xingni, who was used to being frugal, naturally wanted to save as much money as possible.
After Jiang Xingni sat down and the car door closed, Xiao Jiming explained to them what had just happened.
No matter how gifted the main characters are, they are still just a group of students and children.
There was a problem with the initial anomaly rating; everyone mistakenly thought it was a Class C anomaly, so sending a group of children was understandable. But now it has been confirmed as a Class B anomaly.
No matter how Xiao Jiming tried to persuade him, Lin Hongguang remained resolute—compensation was acceptable, but continued involvement? Forget about it.
Jiang Xingni listened to their story while lazily yawning.
The familiar debate, although Lin Hongguang disagreed, the main characters were certainly not going to let it go. Jiang Xingni didn't even need to listen to know in which direction the conversation would develop.
Her gaze fell on the car window, where a vehicle carrying a group of underage superhumans was slowly driving. Jiang Xing glanced at the shadows cast by the jagged branches in the night sky and thought about the time.
It wasn't even four in the morning yet, plenty of time for Jiang Xingni to catch up on some sleep.
So when the main characters finally finished arguing, and a few of them turned their heads to look at another companion who hadn't said a word, this was what they saw.
The girl leaned back in her seat, even adjusting herself to a comfortable position, her forehead resting against the car window. With each bump of the vehicle, her forehead would hit the glass, leaving a small red mark.
—But even so, she was still fast asleep and did not wake up.
He Jingtong clicked his tongue: "Sleeping soundly."
Xiao Jiming retorted with a smile, "Don't say that. Xing Ni's sleep quality has just improved a little."
Pei Zhaoye, resting his chin on his hand, sat next to Jiang Xingni and stared at her: "Do you think if we wake her up now, she'll know what we're discussing?"
Song Juexiao was too lazy to pay attention to this group of men her age who had no idea what they were up to. She looked at Jiang Xingni's sleeping posture, her eyes softened a little, and then she gently nudged Jiang Xingni.
When Jiang Xingni woke up, she saw four people—three men and one woman—staring at her.
He had an expression that said, "You're awake?"
